This thread is so hypocritical. Furries in general make most people outside the fandom go "what the heck?" If you're going to put down others for being freaks then perhaps you've come to the wrong place.

Sooooo... let me see if I understand this quote right.  You're saying (in a round about way) that those posting in this thread are making you go "what the heck?"?

Got it! And thanks for sharing your opinion! ^.~

~River

Slight flaw in your reasoning, being that I'm not "outside" the fandom. My point was that it's hypocritical to put down someone for being a freak when you are a freak yourself. A case of the pot calling the kettle black.

One dictionary definition for "freak" is "an unconventional person". Furries are certainly unconventional, and I take pride in the fact that being a furry makes me unconventional, it makes me different and more interesting than your average joe. I'm proud of being a freak, and you should be too.

LOL

I understood you perfectly, silly.  The posters in this thread are one of the things that make you go 'what the heck' because...

"This thread is so hypocritical".... "If you're going to put down others for being freaks then perhaps you've come to the wrong place."

...generally isn't said unless a person has thought 'what the heck' about those whom they are calling hypocritical, etc.

:Shrugs:

As for me lol, yep you got it!  I like being different from others, as it makes me 'me' and allows others to be able to remember me, instead of having my memory fade into place among all the other 'normal' carbon copy people they've known in their lives.

Giving yourself a trait, or edge over others is usful all throughout life. It's what makes your face stand out in the boss' mind after a slew of interviews for a position as an adult.  It's what makes the kids think of your skill at kickball when being chosen to play the game in grade school.  Uniqness is what distinguishes us from others and most definately should be enjoyed!

There are a lot of things I don't "get".

Vore, for example, I never understood. Why anyone would want to be eaten is beyond me. Or dedicated crossdressers who won't get a sex-change out of choice and not out of financial situation. Or foot fetishists. Or Republicans.

Like I said, there's a lot of things I don't "get", but there's a lot of things people don't "get" about me.  I'm 19, yet I love cartoons and comic books. None of my friends read comics or watch cartoons this side of Family Guy and Simpsons - I'm sure they don't understand why I scour the web for cartoons.

Hell, I'm sure a few of them don't understand why I scour a computer at all. It's not their "thing" so they don't "get it".
And that doesn't bother me - it takes different strokes to make the world go round.

Wow, come to think of there isn't really much about this that makes me say what the heck. The aforementioned "Bob," while being apparently somewhat obnoxious and pushy really isn't that far off the wall with the whole "returning to nature" thing. Thats always been kindofa pipe dream of my own (though not in a competely literal sense - not at least until I can get some feline DNA spliced with my own - enough for me to survive prolonged exposure, anyways). Granted, I'm not going to jump down anyones throat to get them to join me. And the sooner I can get surgery to become more like the lion I am, the better. I'm not talking about cosmetic "ooh, now I have whiskers" surgery, but actually becoming my fursona (anyone who would care to, please interject with a big, resounding what the heck!'<img'>
the only thing I can really say makes me twinge that I've heard of is probably what some people do with plushies. The though of installing *ahem* plumbing in my Ryo-Ohki would be like watching Big Bird and Miss Piggy getting it on. Its just strange.

Honestly I've met stranger people at clubs and other places than I have at furry conventions.

That's pretty simple. Just because you like to wear the clothes doesn't mean you want to change your genitals. It's often more about being androgynous than outright transgender. It's finding pleasure in blurring the line between gender stereotypes rather than jumping all the way across.

As for vore, which still confuses me too, I asked one afficionado and he said some see it as the ultimate form of domination/submission. But he also went on to say it didn't apply to him and wasn't sure why it appealed to him.

I don't get plushophilia. At least I don't get it when it involves a plush that takes the form of the user's spirit animal or phenotype.

To me a spirit or totem animal is a sacred thing. To do that to something that bears the likeness of an animal you share a spiritual connection to seems wrong somehow.Like a sign of disrespect.Of course this is just my way of thinking and I won't condemn anyone who thinks otherwise. But for me the idea of someone boinking a plush canid makes me ill. It's almost like they're defacing somthing I hold dear.

I don't understand that, but i will accept that it happens. As long as it is a personal thing, and does not infringe on someone else's rights, whatever medium that applies to.

I feel the same way about BDSM: i do not get off on being humiliated, but some people do. As long as they do not involve me,  or ignore me asking them to take it out of a public sphere (such as non-BDSM websites, and restarurants), they can go right ahead.

As much as it bugs me I'd never attack someone on a forum for it.I figure my ranting at someone isn't going to change their point of view,it's just going to make them less likely to respect my point of view.I may rant about it in my journal, but I'd never try to force my beliefs on others, any more than I'd want them trying to force theirs on me.

I say what the heck in the back of my mind often (furry included), but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Most interesting things begin with what the heck.

Plus, a lot of that what the heck applies to me.

Some furry fetishes are unusual, but even if they don't do anything for me, I usually understand the motivation and why those people are into it. None of them really bother me.
Interestingly, I find things like furpiling completely understandable, while things like pony play are a bit harder to wrap my head around.

That reminds me, back in high school I had a good friend - an asian fellow who laughed a lot - and on school days we used to go to McDonalds for lunch back when they had the Humongasize option here in TX (a level above supersize). Anyway, he used to tell me about his giantism fetish - where he is very tiny, a few inches high, and the woman is huge. So it just goes to show that unusual things abound outside furry too.

You know, it's kind of funny now - the first time he mentioned it, it was as plainly as one might comment about the weather. And it did not bother me in the slightest. I asked him a lot about it out of curiosity. I guess it is really hard to shock me.

Too bad I lost touch with him, he was a great guy....

I LOVE IT!

My opinion's simple:  keep it consenual and do as little harm as you can (ex:  the murder fetish is out!'<img'>  However, what two consenting adults do is not my business.

Just remember, I may ask you to take it private.  We, the other 10 billion of the world, may not wish to see you yiff.  Not sure you're the exhibitionist type, either...

well.. the only thing that really freaked me out.. (that i know about.. i just admitted to msyelf that i'm an admirer of the fandom recently) was the fursuiters.. and the zoophilies.

the ONLY reason why the fursuiters freaked me out.. is because of a personal problem i had with them..

a couple of friends in college considered themselves furries.. and one of my 'friends' invited me to a fur pile.. i had no earthly idea what it was.. but he told me just to wear a halloween costume of an animal.. so i'm like.. cool party.. well.. ehh... let's just say you've never seen someone in a crocodile costume run so fast..

i wouldn't have had a problem with it. really. i would have just liked a warning that bambi was going to grind on me.. ugh.

and with the zoophilia.. i just don't think it's right to force dogs or anything else to do that.. there's a reason why there are different species on the planet..

.:: shrugs ::. but to each his own. whatever creams yur twinkie i guess..

When I was first introduced to furryness, I thought it was awesome. All these people who loved animals and embraced their animal sides...Then, in the last year or so, when I started joining furry websites and talking to more and more furs, I've been introduced to some things that just....shock me.

For example, people who loves animals in *that* way...Ugh. In my opinion, that's one of the most horrible things anyone can do. I'm pretty open-minded, but on this issue I just can't budge. If I ever saw someone doing that...Well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.

Fantasizing about it or being turned on by pictures of animals is one thing. That I can handle, so don't think I'm condemning a whole section of furryness here.

Thankfully, I wasn't exposed to all of this until I was old enough to realize that some people are just not right in the head. And, also thankfully, the majority of furs I've met have been pleasant and normal (for a fur :P), and even fun  '<img'>

So...yeah. I've definitely had moments of "what the heck?!"
