Title: Mass IRC disconnect
Post by: Avan on November 30, 2010, 02:42:02 pm
Seems everyone got disconnected from IRC earlier. No idea why.

It happens.

It's when they don't reconnect we worry.

Must be a server issue since my site isn't accessable

No,  It was just a, "netsplit."  It's when servers in an IRC network loose their connection from each other.  It's extremely common in most irc networks.

There must be a separate non-IRC related problem going on with some of Furtopia's hosted websites then, because my Furtopia-hosted website, http://www.hoagiebot.furtopia.org/ (http://www.hoagiebot.furtopia.org/), has been down for the past few hours as well.

I've sent PM's to WhiteSheperd and Kada-Ru about this issue.

WS took down the server yesterday for a few minutes. It should be all fine now.  I will log in and check it out. :)

Any update on this situation Kada-Ru?  As of the time of this writing (1:30PM CST) my Furtopia website is still down.   :'(

Are they still down?  If so I will let WS know when he gets home from work.

Several forum members, including Hoagiebot, Scrimno, and Vararam among others, have linked their avatars to Furtopia hosted images.  When the servers come back online, their avatars will become visible again, which could be used as a quick (but crude) way to check server status.

Found a DNS glitch and fixed it.  That should of fixed the issues.

Hallelujah!  I am so glad that you were able to fix the problem and that my Furtopia-hosted website is back up!   :)

Mr. WhiteShepherd, if you were trying to put the fear of God into me about what is going to happen to me in about 10-weeks when you shut down Furtopia website hosting for good, you have succeeded.  About three days into this outage I actually got an e-mail from one of my loyal fans wondering why my website was gone, and I personally kept finding myself wanting to point people to where they could see my artwork online, only to realize that it wasn't there for the time being.  Perhaps foolishly on my part, I have always posted pretty much all of my furry artwork to my website here on Furtopia.  I have never started an account on VCL, DeviantArt, FurAffinity, Yerf, or any of those other online gallery sites during the 8-years that my website has been hosted here, so when my website goes dark my web presence pretty much ceases to exist.

I am currently still researching where I can move my website to before you shut the whole operation down, but boy oh boy was I surprised when my Furtopia web hosting suddenly went down early!  Please don't scare me like that!

Hoagiebot, You might look through these if you need one with mysql, was looking for one last week myself after the site outage and announcement.

http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-mysql-database.php

But about all of them frown upon any adult artworks.

You just reminded me of a major issue that I didn't even consider, Werewolfhero!  So far I have been comparing web hosting services based on what features and services they provided only.  I didn't even think about looking into whether or not the web hosts that I was looking at had any kind of artwork content restrictions!  When I first migrated to Furtopia from Angelfire on October 9, 2002, I had not yet drawn any adult furry artwork, so content restrictions weren't really an issue the last time that I was looking for a web host.  I will definitely have to put that into consideration now.  Thanks for the link, by the way!
