Fashion statement, or death wish?
« on: January 13, 2009, 11:26:07 am »
I-I'm actually doing it...  I'm wearing my collar at school, and I am really nervous.  I do get some laughs out of it... like the people who wanted to know why I was wearing it, and I told them it was to raise awareness about the endangered Antarctic dingo, and they actually believed me.  I've had 4 questions, 1 person pulling on my collar, and about 1000 odd looks...  I just hope my mom doesn't talk to anyone when she substitutes later this week...  Oh, well...

Kudos to anyone who knows where the title of this thread came from... :D

I never wore a collar in HS...well, after ninth grade. I wore a chain choker til my teachers started to make me take it off. So I kept wearing it on the bus and out and about til my mom found out and told me not to wear it at all.  :(

But the odd looks are sometimes enough for me to keep it on now-a-days!  :D   But in a college town, I rarely get even so much as a second glance, let alone questions.

P.S.: The title is from MCR, is it not?    (:

This was a good answer. :D

Good luck to you! As long as you keep a good sense of humor about it, it sounds like you won't run into too many problems... but if you do, at least you have some furry friends from your school to back you up. :)

I completely understand the feeling. I'm wearing my collar right now, and I've told myself that the next time I go shopping, I'm wearing my collar. However, it makes me rather nervous, so my mind keeps trying to weasel out of doing the shopping.

Ding ding ding!  We have a winner!  (:

I have now had one deragatory comment!  Someone wanted to know if I was wearing a collar 'cause I was someone's... well, you get the idea... (:

First off...YAY! I got it! (love that song!)  :D
*is now listening to MCR*

But on the topic...those kinds of responses happen. Just tell them it doesn't mean that at all and forget about it. Fortunately no one has actually asked me that or said anything about that. That would get obnoxious, I bet.   x_x

Yeah, that is an awesome song, and it fit the situation.  I like Hang 'em High more, though... :D

But, yeah, I could care less what people say about me.  Most people are just curious, and people assosciate collars with some weird stuff sometimes.  Oh, well... :D

It's always good anti insult practice wearing a collar at school  ;)

but I jest I jest.

I haven't actually worn mine to school since im out of it but when i wear mine out in public i've yet to get a negative comment on it so you should be fine.

If you interested in lucid dreaming just drop me a PM or stop by the lucid dreaming thread I'll be happy to answer any of your questions.

Wew... I made it through the day!  I got some laughs from some of the jerks in my last class, but it wasn't too bad.  I actually enjoyed myself! :D

Do you plan wearing it to school again?

I wear my collar to school everyday, I just deal with the BS that I get. 95% of the people I talk to are just curious as to why I'm wearing one. There are one or two people who give me a hard time, but as long as you don't take them seriously, they just go away. The teachers don't comment on it, a a lot of people just assume I had a dog that died.  :D

Wearing it again today!  So far, I've had one question, two laughs and one person tell me that it looks "legit".  (Right after he pulled on it... :'()  But so far so good! :D

Okay, I just told someone that I was wearing the collar to raise awareness for the Antarctic Dingo, and the first words out of his mouth were "Dingos don't wear collar."

But seriously, some people actually believed me when I told them that.  Antarctic Dingo....  I crack myself up sometimes....

Okay, more people are starting to say I'm wearing the collar for...  Um...  Not exactly G or PG reasons...  I think I'm about to give their "ringleader" a few websites to look at so she'll stop...  Or maybe that would make it worse...  Oh, who cares?  I'm happy, so I could care less what other people think. :D

Yeah...I laughed really hard when I saw the Dingo line as a reason. That was a great excuse!  :D

But that does make me slightly glad all I get are a few odd looks from people on the sidewalk here. But I must say...I am the only person I have seen yet wearing a collar here...and the university alone has over 35000 students... x_x
There must be someone else with a collar here. I just have to find 'em!

"their ringleader?" You mean there are a whole group of them?  :P  I know what your talking about, and I only had one person even allege that.

Just do what I do when someone asks me about the collar. I just tell them about the fandom, and if they want to know more, I show them a video from the AC '06 fursuit dance that I have on my iPod. It's a simple, visual way to explain the root culture of the fandom, and gives a  good example.

Well, I gave her some info, and she stopped messing with me, so I guess it worked out.  I haven't been able to wear my collar for a few days 'cause I have relatives that substitute at the school and I'm not quite ready to tell them yet.

BAM! See, knowledge is a mighty weapon, not to be underestimated. As for the relatives, just be open, and hope they are equally open-minded.  :o

Good on you! Sadly I've never worn my to school (would but tight dress code, I always wear my dog tag with fursona's name on it around though on a small chain, hehe), but I always wear it when I'm not at school or work, and I've bumped into a few people from school with it and there's a bunch or chicks that I have a restraining order on (o_O;) and they came up to me and hassled me for wearing it, calling out things, "what a dog, dogs must be on leash" bla bla, so I calmy smiled and 'woofed' at them, laughed and walked off, they were so surprised! Just go along with thier jokes if you're comfortable with it, laugh with them, I think that's a bit better (in my case it least, hah) than saying you're a furry, although I have told a few people from school that asked I was a wolf, confusion insured :D
