I'm a big fan of Edgar Allen Poe's work. if you aren't familiar with his work, please read 'The Pit and the Pendulum', a short story by him. That is the kind of work he did, and what this poem is about. (btw my favorite poem of his is 'For Annie' if you wanna check that out)
Come walk down a broken road,
That I once dared to cross.
Only to find on the other side,
Was death, decay, and frost.
The thought invokes in me now
A sense of blackened fear.
For when I crossed that broken road,
No one shed a tear.
Come walk down this broken road,
My harsh reality.
And I will help you understand
This ubiquitous duality.
Look now onto the monolith,
The odious, wretched keep.
A million words best left unsaid,
Are guard dogs here, asleep.
Walk now through insolvent halls,
And kneel before the king.
On learning his, the Fates had cried,
Of him angels will not sing.
He waits for death here, silently,
He waits to find release.
His crown of thorns, and icy throne
Will never give him peace.
Save him time, another rhyme,
Let him his true colors show.
Trapped beneath his promises,
This king no more, is Poe.
