My box~ <3 (Version 2)

So, being an audio person, I have been having a secret love affair with thermionic valve (vacuum tube, for you 'mericans) technology. Well, I've decided to come clean about it. This is my valve preamp:







Built from a kit, with power supply and input/output modifications from myself. Originally ran of two sets of batteries, a 9v supply and a 3v supply. So the board on the left has a pair of LM317s on it in parallel to supply those. The whole circuit has a pretty low current draw (70 hours out of 1 9V battery originally), so efficiency isn't a big concern for me. The toggle switch on the back is a bypass switch. Because there's nothing like a/b comparisons to prove that valves are wizards trapped in glass bottles. :D

For those of you wondering, the little glass things with the rubber rings around them are the valves, in the last picture.

Also, it sounds amazing~

So you plug it into... uh... speakers? Or an instrument of some kind?

IDK, I only really play sound in headsets or desktop speakers.

IDK, I only really play sound in headsets or desktop speakers.

It goes before either headphones or the amplifier for speakers.

sweet!,tubes do sound more awesome,:D i just wish i knew how to do that kind of stuff.......wanted to build a preamp,but i kinda lost interest,and know i have two boxes of tubes(at least 30,40) that i dont even need,thought about sellin em,but i got no idea wat there worth! :o amazing to look at tho,they look so awesome........

I am making a new box! Actually all done myself instead of from a kit, and with 12AU7s on an actual 200V supply, instead of the subminiatures in the last one. Progress has been slow, mostly because I had a better box this time and I had to spruce it up and drill holes in it and such. :p

But PHOTOS!







Unfinished, obviously :p
