Ok, for all of my fans, thank you DrakonianDanceR, here is the first of my AC sketches to be colorized! The scan really doesn't do the pic justice so I will work on rescanning it. Until then, enjoy!

"1st Griffin"
This was colored with Oil Pastels, outline with pencil, and the only black marker is around the griffn's eye.

Ok, here is the second second scan. Yes, I like the brighter scan better for the details.

Wow! Kada, that looks great! The eye really stands out. I'm sure that one will do well.

Thank you, Sumarra! I forgot to say that this is on black construction paper. I really like how it turned out. Difficult to do with the black paper because all the colors seem to just get 'absorbed' into the paper! (giggles)

Wow!

Great use of a monochrome scheme.

Are you doing more?

Ok, Patrick. I admit I am at a loss. What is 'monochrome scheme'?

Thanks, Patrick.

Wow, that's fantastic, Kada.  I like how you used the white (chalk, is it?) on the Gryphon for the light.  It works really well, due to the darkish background.  As Sumarra said, the eye does look really nice.  Great work with this picture, Kada.  Do you know which piece(s) is/are next to colour?

Actually, there is no chalk at all in this pic. 99% Oil Pastels.

(giggles) Yes. I just got through scanning it. Another one on the black construction paper and also colored with 99% Oil Pastels. I am really getting to like using them.

I will surprise you with which is next once I scan them and post them. That way you are more suprised!  '<img'>

Monochrome basically means one colour with the shading effects expressed with varying tones of that one colour.
A black and white television is monochrome using shades of grey. A red monochrome, like your gryphon, uses shades of red, of course.
That sorta thing. '<img'>

Actually the clouds around the griffon were colored with reds and the griffon was colored with browns. You really can't tell in the pic.

Thanks guys.

Ah.  I can see that now.  The reds make the browns reddish.  It adds to an overall earthiness to the piece, kind of like that red ochre you find out in the desserts of Arizona and New Mexico.

Magical work, there.

(giggles) Thanks, Son of Earth. The black construction paper also makes all the colors look darker. I think that makes the pic!

Here is my "Snarling Jaguar".

I like the colouring of that one.  How did you do it?  The fur colour, with the spots as well, look quite realistic.  I also like the ears - they're well done.

So I can't ask what piece is coming next then?  I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

The "Snarling Jaguar" is colored with oil pastels. I have been wanting to try and get the coats to look more like fur and since I don't use oils or acrylics I needed to find something that would give me almost the same effect without the soft brushes. I use an old tooth brush and when I have the colors on the way I want them, I then move the tooth brush bristles over the piece in places to create the fur type. I'm still learning this with the oil pastels. One of the problems I have run into is even though the TB will 'brush' the colors together, it also removes a lot of the pastels.

That's basically all I did to it.

Well, you can ask what is next but I won't answer. (giggles)

The one I did color yesterday turned out horrible so I will resketch it and recolor it differently. It also was going to be on the black paper but it didn't work with the piece I chose. Oh well. Some work, some don't!  '<img'>

Though the pic I worked on Tuesday didn't work out, I did complete 3 other pics yesterday. These are the 'Erased' type where I color the white paper with a solid color of chalk. I 'erase' the image and then outline it for all to see. Enjoy the newest pieces!

"Fox Cubs"

"Nosey Grey Fox Cubs"

"Bald Eagle in Flight"

Now, it is 1:20am and I am bushed! Time to head for bed and dream of more things to create! '<img'>

Ok, so I didn't go to bed. I had another idea I wanted to put on paper. So, here you are:

"Beyond the Ice and Snow" Another bald eagle.

Ok, I'm falling asleep at the keyboard and making all types of spelling errors so I am hitting the hay! '<img'>

(giggles) I have had some of those moments and I can do one per day. The eraser ones though, once I have the idea in my head, I just erase the chalk. It doesn't have to be real detailed as that is not the type of pic it is. So, creating those only takes about an hour to two. Depending on what changes I need to make. The fox cubs I completely redid after showing it to WS. The cub on the left didn't look right after outlinging it. So, I just redid the whole thing on another piece of paper.

I think I like the two bald eagles one best of those.

After looking at the first one again, I may still redo it a third time!  '<img'>

I think I am slowing down, furolks. '<img'>

Here is my latest today, "Wolf Stare".

I could tell after finishing it that the right ear (facing you) is smaller than the left. I'm not going to worry too much about it. We are also going to be cutting down the background, to what you see here, so there isn't so much space behind him. (originally 8 1/2 x 11 will be smaller after cut back. )

The colorized version of this didn't start out as I hoped. I got creative. I colored it with Oil Pastels on black construction paper. I tried using a grey pastel but on the black paper it turned out more like a green. Yuck! I didn't want to really throw this piece away so I kept working with it. I then started to use the Prisma pencils on it to help out with the 'fur' appearance. I actually like how it turned out! Outlined with pencil then white Prisma pencil.

Here are the newest pieces!

"Kangaroo Hop" I colored this one with Oil Pastels, which weren't too forgiving trying to create the background.

"Call of the Night" (giglges) I went back to my chalk for the backgrounds. Not a rich deep coloration like the Oil Pastels or markers, but I still like how they turned out.

"Grizzly Bear" I continued using the chalk for the backgrounds and  'erased' an outline around the animal for more affect.

"Horse"

"Lion"

WS and I are beginning to realize I am in need of more colors!  '<img'>

Thank you, Son of Earth. I am trying to get them out as quickly as I can for AC. I know I haven't done anything since those above because of RL but that is ok. I probably need the breather.

These types above and the erased ones don't take as long as some of those other ones I have been creating so it is easy to put out 2 or 3 a day, if I was to just sit down and stay at the table to do them. (giggles) I don't know why, just easier I guess. Oh, probably not as much detail work in them. I know my my erased ones are beginning to get more detail in them. I love how they are progressing from the first ones I did.

Also, I don't know if you can tell on the pics of the silhoute ones, but when I used the black marker I colored them in the direction their fur would be going. Not real detailed but just a hint of trying to have something other than just plain black. I didn't do that on the first couple because I hadn't thought about it till afterwards. (giggles) An ever progressing experience!

Bloody hell, you've got a lot done in the space of about three days!  Alright, here we go:

Wolf Stare - I like the colouring on this one.  Also, the eyes are quite good in the way they draw the viewer in.  I guess that's why it's called "Wolf Stare".

Fox Cubs - I like how you've done the background on this one - it almost looks like it's fabric.  The way you did similar colouring on the two foxes gives a good effect.  I suppose that's from using the colouring first, erasing after method.

Nosey Grey Fox Cubs - This one's quite sweet.  The fox on the right looks rather cat like, which I think gives the young look of him.  Again, nice colouring (or is it shading, as it's greyscale?) on this piece.

Bald Eagle in Flight - This picture looks like it has some sort of animal skin effect on it.  I think it's the leathery style and the colour.  The eagle looks good, flying in the picture.  The wings are rather nice.

Beyond the Ice and Snow - Another eagle here, possibly the same one, but this time in a much colder climate.  The blues and whites used in the picture make it look cold, which was the effect you wanted to give, I assume.

Kangaroo Hop - I do like this one.  The way you just used silhoettes (sp) instead of drawing the characters full-detial is very effective.  This is helped by the sunset scene in the background.

Call of the Night - This one's really good, too.  The background is really pretty looking, with the wolf silhoette shining against it.  Very nice.

Grizzly Bear - This is nicely done.  I don't know if it was intentional, but I like how even though the bear is a black silhoette, you made the background the colour of what I imagine the bear's fur to be.  Also, the reds, oranges and yellows in the background make for a nice sunset effect, even though you don't actually see the sun in the picture.

Horse - Another good-looking silhoette style picture.  The horse shape is nice, especially against the almost abstract background.  It's an interesting use of colours and patterns you've used that attracts me to it.

Lion - The character in this looks fine, as does the background.  Again, the background interests me, this time how it goes from black to red, orange, and then yellow for the sun, which has a green ring in it also.

Phew, I'm finally up to date.
DC2. etc...
