I just finished coloring the "Yawning Jaguar"! I am finished with my family pics! Yeah!

With this piece I used markers, Prisma pencils and chalk to color it.

I really like how it turned out. I am pleased. It took me approximately 4 hours to complete it.

I just hope I can keep creating pieces like this and the Squirrel Monkey!

The colouring on that is really nice. I also like how one leg is stretching outside of the border - that's quite a clever idea. So does this mean you've finished all the pictures for your family? Well, no time to take a breather - you're now on to your AnthroCon pictures! Good luck.

Actually, the photo I used for the reference has the jaguar like that but on a limb of a tree. When I saw it I knew it would look great with a border. Remember me saying that some pics are good for that type of creativity while others aren't.

YES!! Till next year! Oh, I have gone back over this pick and made the closed eye lid more visible, the nose more differentiated, added the whiskers and a more 3-D affect to the frame. (WS's suggestions.) I'm glad he critiques my stuff because when I have been working on them for that long a period, I'm not suprised I left something out or needed to 'fix' something.

ooooo! Spots! I -love- spots, hehe. You did really good with them, Kada. Better than any of the other spotties I've seen from you so far too.

The color is very vibrant. And you've got a very good idea about how to use borders I see. I learned that last year too, and found that the subect very quickly becomes the focal point when you have part of it jutting out of the border. ':cool:'

I have seen the borders on your work too, Sumarra and after seeing them on yours after seeing them on other artists works, I had to give it a try. I love them! I don't have to worry about creating huge backgrounds! (Which I am still learning.)

Thank you Sumarra. Other than the Squirrel Monkey, I think this one was my best to date. I can see a definitely improvement.

That was the last of the family artwork till next year. Now I can take a breather and work on some other stuff, say for AC perhaps? (giggles)

I don't know how many I will actually get done since some of these are taking several hours to complete now but, I am truly enjoying seeing the improvements!

I have actually figured out the difference between the jaguar and the leopard! When I first started creating these pics I couldn't tell one from the other. Now I can. What helped? I was also downloading some info to include with each species I drew for the family so they could learn a little more about the animal I drew and it wasn't just a piece of art that 'grandma/mom/mother-in-law' drew.

The main difference is in the spots. The ones on the jaguars can have up to 3 spots within their larger spot. Leopards don't have any spots in the middle of the larger ones. So, I too learned from creating these pieces for them.

I know when I get done with AC I will have to start working on birthday and Christmas presents for next year! (giggles)

Hmm, that revised version looks even better. And like we've said, you can now move on to your pieces for AC now. Until the next round of birthday/Christmas presents have to be done. Even though you say doing pictures takes you hours, I don't think that's too long at all, really. Because in doing each picture, you are learning all the time, as well as producing good art. So a few hours a piece is great, I think.

This is true and I know some of the VERY good artists take even longer than 4 hours to complete a masterpiece! Some of them take months to complete.

So I have to agree. Four hours is NOT a long time create a piece in color.
