EL wire?

Has anybody here ever used/experimented with EL wire?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroluminescent_wire
The reason I ask is because I want to hopefully use the stuff to light the interior of a model kit. But the thinness of the wire I may eventually use (0.9mm or 1.4mm) leaves me wondering if it'll be bright enough for my intended use.
For those that have bought and used this stuff, how well is the brightness of the wire to you? What thickness wire did you buy/use and how was the brightness level of it? At what distance could you see/not see the wire/brightness?
I plan to order soon some EL wire from here:

Some comparison pics of wire thickness and brightness. Actual brightness on screen will differ from that in real life.
