there's your problem.
You guys are using crappy TFT displays without gamma correction, aren't you? For most such displays, a gamma correction factor of 0.45 is required for colours to appear even remotely correct. Go into your display driver configuration and set your gamma correction factor to 0.45 (give or take depending on your individual monitor). This will enable your monitor to display colours (almost) correctly, at the expense of being able to display very dark colours at all. Though TFT displays can't display dark colours correctly anyway, so nothing of value was lost.
I just hope you weren't using those displays for your art. If you were, you art probably has colours reminiscent of Monet's paintings before he had his cataracts removed. Sorry.
