It's doable - fingerprint lifting from appropriate surfaces, which can of course be used to create a fake, which would probably do it, or there is of course good ol' fashioned rubber hose methods - http://xkcd.com/538/ springs to mind...

Please don't suggest such methods.

Now, Kobuk, nobody here is encouraging the cool crime of fingerprint forging, just pointing out that it can be done. In fact, it's so easy that anyone can do it with ordinary household items, and most if not all fingerprint scanners are vulnerable to the same technique, which makes me wonder why anyone even bothers with fingerprints for security in the first place (especially when you bring metaphorical rubber hoses into the discussion).

It was just a caution.  There's no reason to get worked up.   o.o

But yeah,  not a very secure method.

I sometimes wonder if the manufacturers really care if one of
their products is stolen or not. Theft drives sales, especially
if the item is expensive, and it creates reasons to sell new
models. "It's more secure."

Of course the public wants the items easy to use, and this makes
them easier to compromise, and all the more attractive to steal.

Lol. That website. This is how I feel about Tv's http://xkcd.com/1299/

I hardly ever watch TV. I watch it occasionally with my family. Most of the time were just watching DVD's because Australian TV sucks.(Most of the time)

Couldn't resist XD

I don't buy I-phones :P Or mobile phones in general.

Although I do own one:

Nokia 6300. It has a Broken music library app... It can still play music though.

My cell phone has an antenna on it.  :-[  No joke, it's seriously that old.  It don't got a camera, and it ain't gonna receive them pesky picture messages nether!  :D

iPones?  I'd reckon they be the dumbest thing ever be comin outa this once-fine country!

EDIT: It also doesn't have a screen.  I can call three numbers that are on speed-dial, or type in the number manually.

Heh. I actually finally got rid of my iPhone 4  for the Samsung Galaxy S4.

It's an alright phone, but I personally dislike Apple a lot. The phone is just too basic and made for "the standard user". It has no pizzaz, no customization, and you're limited to Apple-only apps. If iPhones were the only thing left in existence, I would go for the 5S probably.

I have a phone.
Not that I ever use it, or even care what type it is.

So I guess I got you beat there because I recently upgraded from an iPhone 3G to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. (similar switch as you, but from an older model to a newer model.)   :D

I briefly considered the iPhone 5c because, well, it comes in pretty colors. Yes its a silly reason, and you can get cases for most phones to get the color you want, which is why this wasn't a huge pull. Still, it seems silly you only get white and black all the time.

I've had an iPhone for -years-. I really liked it at first, but over the last couple years I've found it very irritatingly slow. And there is no reason it should be even if it is older, since I only used it for fairly simple stuffs like checking bus times or email. BUT there was a bug in firmware version 4 that caused major slowdowns.  Like, you are trying to type something and only one character would show up, then, and I'm not exaggerating, like half a minute later the rest of what you typed would show up. So frustrating.  >:(

And guess what? Apple never bothered to fix it.  That was the last update to the firmware. After that they stopped supporting that model. And while I think it's understandable that they'd stop supporting their older phones, they could have at least reverted to the last known good firmware before dropping it.  Ultimately, that's what made me decide to look elsewhere and try a different kind of phone.
