I'm sitting here at home, I'm bored, Waiting for dinner to finish cooking. I keep thinking of popping a DVD in the player to watch, but everything I have, I've seen over and over. :P
I'm sure at some point, some other members here can probably relate.
But this thread isn't about me. I am just curious to ask the following: If you could recommend a good movie to somebody to buy or watch, What would it be and why? It can be furry or non-furry. Any genre such as Action, Sports, Comedy, Fantasy, Documentary, etc., etc.

I absolutely LOVE war movies. WW2 is overdone in my opinion, so I stray more to Vietnam. I love that war. But I cant help but admit there are some darn good WW2 movies also. A few great war movies I would recommend are...
Saving Private Ryan - because this is the best movie of all time. I really Love this one. It stars Tom Hanks, who is one of my favorite actors.
Hart's War - This is a great and touching movie about some American POWs captured by Nazis. Its got that guy from Die Hard that I cant remember the name of. :P
Pearl Harbor - This is simply amazing and I almost cried at the end. Its more about these two best friends than Pearl Harbor, but that event is in there and its amazing, plus it shows the brothers as they are in the aerial counter-attack against Japan on their own soil
Cold Mountain - This takes place around the Civil War era, but its not really about that. Its more about the story of this guy and his used to be wife if I remember correctly. Either way, I like this one too.
We Were Soldiers - Dear GOD! I love this one. Its the Vietnam war and this really shows how the Viet Cong used shifty night ops and underground tunnels to terrorize the US insurgents both physically and mentally. I love the loyalty of their commanding officer, refusing to leave the ground until all his troops leave first, dead or alive. I seriously advocate this movie for anyone who slightly likes a war movie. Its amazing! :D
There are dozens of great movies out there for war, but these are a few that pop into my head. If anyone has one I may not have seen, I'm always in the mood to watch a good war movie, any war is good.
Just to keep on the Furry side of things... Marley and Me is a good film, and I did cry at the end of that one.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ OH MY GOD, YES!! I love Balto, watched all of them, although i think there were only two. Even a year after seeing it I was still pretending to be a wolf! ;) God I loved that show.
Another war movie I forgot about yesterday was Wind Talkers. It's during WW2 again, but on the Pacific front against the Japanese. Nicolas Cage has to protect a Navajo "code talker" because he speaks the secret language that the Japanese cant break. Its very touching and I love it.
And I am super excited that theres this channel(Sorry guys forgot which one it was) doing a weekend War movie marathon. I saw Hart's War yesterday! Sadly, I cant watch it all weekend, gots stuff to do. :( But still. I love war movies.

My favourite movies are "Pitch Black", "Constantine" and "I, Robot". They cheered me up when I was going through tough patches.

A classic, also a Kubrick film, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. A satirical look on the cold war, with some truly iconic moments.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is another classic. If there is one film that I want to remember on my death bed, this will likely be the one.

I've got a whole collection of DVDs, so I'm sure I could find something to recommend... But I'll try to suggest something that you're not likely to have seen before.
I watched a movie called The Lawnmower Man a little while ago... Dated, and it's not Oscar worthy or anything, but if you like Tron or The Matrix, well, this is similar. Speaking of Tron... I love both Tron movies. I would even say that Legacy is my favourite movie.
Heavy Metal! Now there's an underrated classic. If you're into metal, like I am, that's great, but it's got an interesting story and some cool animation, too. The sequel, Heavy Metal 2000, isn't bad, and being a more recent movie, it has "heavier" metal songs and better animation. Also, Taarna is way better than Julie.
The Cube movies are good: Cube, Hypercube and Cube Zero. The sequels are just as good IMO.
Event Horizon is one of my favourite horror movies. This one seems to actually disturb a lot of people... Though I loved it. I watched it three times on the same day. It should be required viewing for all horror fans.
I've got more... Nice to see some of my other favourites being mentioned in this thread too. I love Artificial Intelligence, Constantine and I,Robot. All good movies that don't get the love they deserve. :)

Dog Soldiers sound pretty good...I will have to look it up.
For more horror, or what somehow classifies as horror, I would recommend the Freddy movies. I know they are old, but the Nightmare on Elms Street movies were actually really cool in my opinion. Some of them were actually comical how old the effects they used sometimes were. I enjoyed the story in it too. The new one is really well done, I love it. :)

Seconded, hard. This is an awesome movie. Different, very funny, and with awesome gore effects. And if you liked Dog Soldiers, check out the maker's other horror movie: The Descent

Hmmmm, well here's a few:
- Interstella 5555 - A visual realization of Daft Punk's Discovery album
- Heavy Metal - A Sci-Fi fantasy movie with many stories tied into one.
- V for Vendetta
Yeah, a small list, but they're all good movies to kill time with.

Event Horizon actually had a lot more disturbing stuff cut from it, but apparently none of that was stored in high quality so they couldn't add it back later for DVD. My version has some kind of commentary on it where they mention that. I actually find the film fairly tame really, but I like the concept and Sam Neill is usually good in films.

I have a movie that I guarantee you will blow your mind into a million tiny pieces that you'll never be able to put back together again. The Holy Mountain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071615/) by Alexandro Jodorowski.
ONLY watch if you have an open mind! This movie is not for everyone, it is actually a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE in the form of a movie. People are either going to love or hate this movie, which I finally realized after trying to show it to EVERYONE I know. It's filled to the brim with symbolism, occultism, life philosophies and "glowing" ideas and images. I really wish I could show this film to everyone in the world, but I know that 99% of them would walk out on it. It's just too great for words.
FYI, you probably won't be able to find this one in your local bargain bin. It is available on the internet and I think netflix may still deliver it. Any way you get around to watching it, and whether you enjoy it or not, you won't be the same afterwards.

There’s a general argument by most over which of these is better.
Some saying the original is better, or more in league with the novel, and others saying that the remake is better, being more realistic and presented in a better manner.
Honestly, I think it’s that many people just don’t want to lessen the original classic by saying that the remake is better, or ever acknowledging that the remake is good.
As it’s generally very rare and unlikely for a remake to ever be better than an original.
And while those who’ve grown up knowing and liking the original will probably disagree with this…
My opinion is that this is one of those very rare cases in which the remake version is actually better than the original.
Mind you, that I still think the original is a very good movie, I just happen to like the remake better.
Though regardless, they're both good movies and are worth seeing.

I never saw the 60's version of The Time Machine, but I think the 2002 one is more interesting to watch than something strictly following the novel would have been (in that case, the protagonists besides the time traveller would have been stupid good natured dwarf type things). I didn't really like the predetermination bit they threw in there though.

It's funny, because if I were to ever make a movie based on a book, The Time Machine is pretty high on my list.

Here's a few more, must see classics.
From the works of Akira Kurosawa: 7 Samurai and Yojimbo (The Bodyguard.) Both of these have been remade as the westerns, The Magnificent 7 and A Fist Full of Dollars (also great films.) Any fans of anime will also recognize the plot lines in these films. 8)

I loved the Descent. It was always really tense and bloody traumatic at some points
