Anyone catch the spoiler for discord!?

I cannot say how happy I am that Start Trek's John de Lancie (aka Q) is playing this mischivieous character. He seems to have a knack for playing a god of chaos don't he?

I admit I had at first wanted Discord to be a dark, grim force of evil but seeing as its Q, I can't say I'm dissappointed at all.
Especially if he turns out to be even HALF as troublesome for the ponies as he was for the cast of TNG.

I watched the first 20-30 seconds or so yesterday. I made myself stop right after discord first appeared (haven't actually heard him say anything at all).

I'd say that was the perfect length of a teaser for me. Not sure I'd want to see much more that what I did watch. It gave me just enough intrigue to be more excited about Saturday, but didn't reveal a whole lot about the entire plot or anything.

I caught that just now on the FB page. I don't know anything about prior generations, but I have heard a lot of people mention they should bring Discord into the show for some time. So, go them? LOL. BTW, I think titling the thread "Discord" was a spoiler in and of itself.

Oh, the whole Discord thing has been talked about for the last week or so, if I recall. I figured it was pretty common-knowledge at this point. Oh well.

As for the earlier references to discord, I don't know if that idea came out of previous generations of MLP (doubt it because from what I hear, there really was no place for a 'villain' in the old shows?), or if it's just from some fanfics that came about. I mean, discord is the pretty obvious counterpart to harmony

I've boldened the part that fits. The mane 6 are the representatives of the Elements of Harmony and discord means a lack of harmony. So therefore he is a natural and very fitting villian for them. But given the lighthearted nature of thee show I'm hoping he'll stick around like Q did and show up every now and then just to throw a monkey wrench into someones plans and cause mischief.

It would certaainly suck if we all got hyped up for him and he was gone by episode 2.

also yeah Discord has been discussed for quite a while now, like almost since season 2 was in rumored production. He was talked about on EQD, I remember Sethisto had a picture of a black Alicorn in armor and red eyes and below it read I'll just assue this is Discord for now cause it's badass.

Which I think led many to hope and pray that season 2 was gonna be very grimdark, even me a little. But I gotta say I'm looking forward to the new season even more now that I know who his VA (Voice Actor) is.

Ok, so am I reading this right that Discord never was part of earlier shows and was a fan made idea? I remember hearing in one of the podcasts that Season 2 was well into production when they finally really heard about the Brony movement, which would lead me to think they already had Discord in the making. I haven't been reading any of the fanfics, but I do know about the Elements of Discord story, which I thought was using Discord as a villan from the prior generation(s).

I'd try to google the info on this, but I think all the results I'd want would be flooded out by hits on talk about the season 2 opener.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a fan-made idea. As has been said, Discord is the obvious nemesis to harmony. So it would seem reasonable that somebody working on the show would have made the connection long before any fanfic writer did. Haven't they said that the first two episodes or something were even made as part of season 1, but they just didn't really fit in at all, so they just adapted them to be the start of the second season? This would place the work on the Discord episodes even earlier than when the writers/producers knew about the Bronies.

Now, if the season 2 opener's villain was Krastos the Glue Maker... that's would just be too specific/unusual to be a coincidence.

Also, I hadn't even considered that he could be a repeat character who drops in now and again. I think that would be cool. Although we have no precedence for that sort of thing, since any 'extras' who actually had a real role in season 1 were never heard from again (Trixie, Gilda, Luna...). Well, I guess Zecora did manage to get a few mentions in later episodes... then again, she also wasn't cast as a true antagonist all said and done...

I think its just a coincidence. The first two eps of season 2 were originally set to be the ending part of season 1, but Hasbro decided not to broadcast them and instead kept them to be the opener for season 2. So really Discord has been around since the production of season 1.

I think it would be a neat idea if he did that and could see the real possibility considering who's the voice actor. They may not have had any re-occuring antagonists in Season 1, but they did have the general over arcing theme of the coming ~~Magneto~~ Gala and had a few episodes dealing with it like Ticket Master, and the one about the dresses. So it's not too much of a stretch.

Just thought of something... With as much as Q er- I mean Discord plays around with stuff and confronts the ponies like he does, not being all sneaky like NMM was but getting up right in their faces...

I got off track. Anyway how awesome would it be if Discord showed up in an episode wearing a starfleet uniform?

Oh god, just thought of this! What if Discord, in his ability to corrupt ponies like he does... What if HE was the reason Luna turned into NMM?

Oh snap. That would be Epic. I doubt we would see Star Trek per se, but something similar. *IF* that happened, I would think his "judge" outfit (or MLP equivalent) would be the more likely costume for Discord and having a similar trial at the end of part 2.

It'd be cool to see the Judge outfit on Discord.

I'd like to think that maybe like Q deep down he isn't evil exactly but just wants to use chaos to make the ponies realise the boundlessness of their potiential...

But after seeing how he treated Fluttershy.... Not even Q did stuff like that. And taking their wings and horns, thats like turning Worf into a human or taking Riker's arm orr leg or something! Discord strikes me as fairly evil in that respect.

And yet, at the resolution of all this, I can see Discord and Celestia sitting down for tea and enjoying a good laugh over the whole thing.

Well, that may be more cause of the 'trollestia' fanon that's running around everywhere. But still. Celestia may have gotten bored and given him the elements (she did say that she's the only one who can unlock the vault) ...

Good point, but it looks like Discord can nullify/remove magic, which could grant him access. Speaking of which, I loved seeing more of the castle.

More of the castle was good but I was upset at the lack of Luna. It was nice she was mentioned but I wanted to see more of my favorite princess!

I noticed Fluttershy was the only pony he couldn't talk into turning against
her friends, and used his magic instead..

I wonder if this comes back to bite Discord in part 2..

Everyone is so up in arms about how I treated poor little fluttershy... Honestly is that ALL you humans care about? All the things happening around Equestria? The fate of the world HANGING in the balance? The problems of others? The potiential for so many others to have been hurt? After what happened with the other six main ponies? Everything I did to them and the only one you're concerned about is Fluttershy? ....No wonder the continuum decided to test ponies instead of humans, you creatures really are SO predictable!

was the only pony that frustrated him, and he lost his cool
for a few moments.

That'd be funny but Zecora rhymes everything while Discord only does it when he's screwing with you.
