Universal Health Care. Do you support/want it or not?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_health_care

The U.S. does not have UHC. But other countries like Canada, France, the UK, and other European nations do have UHC in some form.
Is UHC really that much better? What are your thoughts about if the U.S. could implement some form of UHC here? Would it work or not?

I'd like to hear all sorts of opinions and thoughts on this issue. Particuarly from any Furtopian members from Canada, the UK, or other countries with a UHC system.

Question? so you don't want universal heath care , where it would by law be excepted everywhere, because what we have now didn't work for you?

This works everywhere else in the world. We don't have it because of greed. No one would be profiting  billions a year if we dropped what we have now.
It's been said that rats can gain access to your home by climbing up threw your toilet. I prefer to use the front door.

No offense but that's a bit like saying you don't want to own a cat because you got pecked by a chicken.

UHC would make it so that a hospital would be required by law to accept your insurance and those of us who do not have insurance would be covered if something should happen.

As someone from the UK, the NHS is a godsend. I would not be alive without it. Nor would my parents, my sister, most of my friends. We have the option to go private if you want faster care or are paranoid or whatever and can afford it.

Frankly, I (and many other Brits) find it stupid, baffling, and often outright terrifying that the US does -not- have it. The idea that some Americans do not want an ambulance called for them if they get into medical trouble because they would be in massive debt just for the ride to the hospital, let alone the treatment? Madness.

Frankly, this American seconds all of what you said Loc.  I am not afraid to switch systems.  I vote for it anytime I get a chance.  And yet here where I am currently living, this town is strongly against it all, and they are the ones who need universal health care the most!  Smacks of ignorance.

I am suffering from a blown out disk in my back causing extreme pain, swelling, tenderness, nerve issues, muscle weakness etc....  It is healing VERY slowly (it reoccurs if I pick up something heavy).  And here is a thought for some of the more money minded people out there...

Would you rather pay for my to live long term on services that others provided while I just linger and can't work?
Or would you rather fix me up, send me out to work, and let me pay it off via taxes?
I would think second option is the one.  Yet people amaze me.

So far.. I am lucky to have some savings to live off of between jobs, people to live with, and also that somehow my back is starting to heal up naturally.  But it is all LUCK.
But I could have been patched up sooner and possibly better with a surgery, and then sent out to get ANY job.

Our country seems to be content with letting its citizens fall and be trodden on like dirt.  Unless you have oodles of money...
Too bad , bad things and ill health come to ALL people as a fact of life.
The fact our country ignores this simple truth, and has no safety net, is enraging.
Bear your soul and take control
If the wolves are howling outside your door
Invite them in and make them beg for more!
(Name that tune!)

America will never have a UHC system. At least, not anytime soon. And probably not in my lifetime either.  :'( Some, but not all of the reasons are the following:

1. Greed - Politicians, Medical institutions and Organizations, CEO's, and Doctors love their big money. And a lot of them don't care who they screw or hurt to make a $.

2. When people hear of or think about socialized (Socialism) medicine, a lot of them seem to think of communism and the Soviet Union. Why? I don't know. But that's often what I read or hear about. Canada, the UK, France, and a lot of other nations have "socialzed" medicine in some form, and those countries don't have a communist flag flying from their flag pole. They're still Democratic.

3. Fear - Fear leads to ignorance. The government, press, and various medical institutions and organizations keep spreading lies and false claims about how "bad" UHC might be and so forth. We need to "wake up" and stop being afraid and start researching and being knowledgeable about what UHC is and what it isn't, and what it can do for us. The more knowledgeable you are about something, whatever it may be, then the less fearful you will be of it.

4. Taxes - A lot of countries tend to raise/use taxes to cover UHC costs. Say the "T" word in America to anybody to try and promote UHC and you're instantly bound to get a big NO WAY! Americans hate taxes in any form. Our country was founded on the principle of "No taxation without representation!". So if taxes aren't or won't pay for UHC in America, then what will?

Just read this this morning. UHC is not always as picture perfect as you think. Case in point: Finland.
