Wow, I'm impressed. It's so good to hear about people caring about animals. I work at a no-kill shelter myself, and I can tell you (as if you didn't know) it's one of the most rewarding things there is.
Now, for some advice. Make absolutly sure that you out yourself out there. The difference between a shelter that works and one that doesn't is when people know you exist. Put yourself out at events, have fundraisers whenever you can. For instance, my shelter has an info booth at an SPCA event. Also, the even is near Whole Foods, which generally attracts vegetarians and vegans and others who will sympathise.
Many, many people want to have animals, it's just a matter of letting them know the best place to get them.
Our shelter even goes to malls to do gift-wraping for donations.
I'm so glad you're doing this, and I'll try to help out any way I can. On Sunday I''ll actually be at that info booth and I can ask the founders for some more tips.
Edit-I'll tell you what I can do right now, I could make you a website. You could put up pictures of the animals that were availible. Keep us updated.
