Avagadro's Song And Chords to It
« on: October 16, 2005, 12:25:10 am »
I have written a little song about chemistry. This is a geeky song. I hope you like geeky songs. I know I do.

I've also heard a rumor that there is another song like this one floating around out there. Has anyone ever heard of it? I want to know if I'm doing something not original.

Avagadro  Lyrics By: Shawn Frazer, A.K.A.  Artem Rose
Tune and chord progression of “Desperado” by “The Eagles”

            G G7     C                      Cm
Avogadro, now we’ve got your number
    G                    Em7      A7          D7
Chemists were dumber, way back then.
                   G           G7                  C                         C7
Oh, they’d hang up their lab coats, give half of their soul
            G                         Em7    A7          D7
Just to know how many atoms make up a Mole.

        Em                            Bm
Don’t count or write that number, boy,
              C                   G
Because you won’t be able
        Em7                    C                  G
Scientific notation is always your best bet
             Em                    Bm                       C                     G
Now a dozen grams of carbon, have been laid upon your table
              Em                  Am                       Am7
But you only want the number you can’t get.

           G    G7                       C              Cm
Avogadro, you've had your sweet inspiration
         G         Em7            A7                 D7
Exponential notation has served you so well
        G     G7               C                       Cm
And gases? No matter which one you meter.
           G                        Em7     A7      D7
Twenty-two point four liters, at S   T   P

          Em                              Bm
Don’t let them change your mind, my friend
            C                               G
They’ll all be wrong in the very end.
           Em7                        C             G
You’ll prove them wrong even past your day.
           Em                   Bm
You're losin' all your praise and bows
            C                        G                        Am7
But it's funny how your number's here to stay

        G   G7                         C                   Cm
Avogadro, why won’t they come to their senses
        G                        Em             A7                         D7
You gave them some hintses and, showed them the way
                    G        G7        C                         Cm
Six point oh twoooo, times ten to the twenty-third
          G      Em     C     G     Am7
That’s Avogadro
          G       Em               Am7     D7  G
That’s Avogadro, and his number to—day

I think I've gotten all of the chord placements right... at least, no glaring serious errors. If you see any, tell me, and that'd be great. Thanks!

Edit: Found one. XD

Wow, that is utterly brilliant!!  I love it!
Brings back tons of memories of my pre-uni chemistry lessons!  Actually we used to have to do that at uni too! '<img'>

I remember there was a song going round that was made up from the names of all the elements in the periodic table but I can't remember who did it or the melody.  It was fun though.  '<img'>

Hey, thanks guys!  I'm glad you like it!

Ishmael- I remember that song! That was done by a Harvard student a while back when there were only about 101 known elements. Alas, I haven't been able to find it yet.

That's a shame I'd love to hear it again.
Come to that,  I'd love to hear your song as opposed to reading it on a page.  Maybe you could record it???  '<img'>

I've been giving it thought to play it on my radio show this afternoon, but I'm not sure I feel too confident in my abilities to play it and sing together yet. Bwah-hah.  With any luck, I'll be able to record it sometime by the 24th, or maybe a little afterwards.
