Hey, all.  =)  I've never posted in here before, so I thought I'd ask questions that have probably been asked a thousand times.   '<img'>

What instruments do you play if any?  (Or do you sing?)

What musician or band, if any, do you tend to pattern your music after?  Everyone has their own style, but everyone is influenced in some way by musicians that they look up to.

I play an acoustic guitar (a taylor 214), and I also sing.  My biggest musical influence is my dad, but other huge influences are Dave Matthews, David Gray, Bruce Co'burn, and a few others that are less influential, but still there.   '<img'>

Mostly I like to strum chords, but I also fingerpick a lot.  I don't use a guitar pick, just 'cause it's not my favorite sound.  I haven't written much, and I'm a huge self-critic, so I usually just throw my own stuff away anyway.  I'm a better lyricist than I am a composer.

I'm not really in a band but I sing quite well. I was in a chior when I was 8 but left the year after. I sing every day now. My room's like one giant schoolbus (everyone sings stupid songs on a schoolbus!'<img'>.

I'm able to play Eyes On Me from FF8 on the keyboard quite well and sometimes Smoke on the Water on the electric guitar.

I play the violin fairly well.

Well as I mentioned in a different thread, I play lead guitar in a band, sing a little and have started creating music on the computer.

As to musical influences:

Carlos Santana
Jimmy Page
And numerous guitarists from 80's metal bands  '<img'>

The Violin is one of my favorite instruments.  I love strings.  I have a CD of Edgar Meyer on upright bass, YoYo Ma on Cello, and Mark O'Connor on Violin--it's awesome!

I always wanted to learn piano.  I started to as a kid, but we had to get rid of our piano when we moved, so it only lasted a few months.  =P

My husband plays bass, and has talked about wanting to use the computer for composing and other musical endeavors.  He took some college classes on it--he studied music for two years.  I honestly have no clue what he learned about anything, though--it was all before I even knew him.  LOL!

Funny.. I was thinking of buying a violin this morning..
I still might.  I started playing violin in 2nd grade.  I stopped playing in 8th grade.  I started percussion in 7th grade, and still play to this day.  (i'm 25 now) I also used to play Trombone in 5th and 6th grades.
My specialty is keyboards (piano-y stuff) and keyboard percussion (including vibraphone, marimba, chimes, etc).  I have written arrangements for myself.
Actually, if Tatsu decides to come in here, you should talk to him about arrangements.  He is really damn good.
As for singing, I hate hearing my voice recorded (which is funny because I used to have a radio show), but I like to sing karaoke.  =^_^= x 7
I also used to play in bands and stuff in High School and college, and helped write songs for those (mostly instrumentals).
My favorite song of all time was called "That Special Glide".  It was written by a few of us, together.  Our band was was called CHERB.  I have a version of the song (which actually, we wrote 3 different arrangements of) in MP3 format.  This was done at my house one day when we were hyper and excited that no one was home and we could fit all of our instruments in the house.  Unfortunately, it was recorded on one of those ultra crappy tape recorders from my mom's hallway.  But anyway, it still sounds fun.  (best keyboard solo of my life is on this)  Only people playing on this are me on keys, Rooster on drums, and Lucky on Bass. One person that had written the original basis for the tune was T. Najamal, who isn't on this recording.
Download "That Special Glide"

Enjoy!

Oh yeah.. my influences..
In no particular order, Quincy Jones, Nobuo Uematsu, The Boys/Suns of Light, Herbie Hancock, Dave Matthews, George Clinton...there are so many others..  There's actually a bigger list of my influences on The Symposium for Furry Music, which is hosted here at furtopia.

I play the clarinet and the bassoon. My music is styled mostly after film scores and overtures. I don't think I style it after anyone in particular, but I guess if you listen to my music you'd hear a bit of Hans Zimmer, a bit of Jerry Goldsmith, and a bit of James Horner.

I play a BC Rich Warlock Guitar, following the styles of Santana, Mick (Slipknot) and Tom Morrello (Rage Against the Machine) - I love raw sounding guitar with alot of decent fingering ability.

When I sing I follow the style of the early Jonathon Davis (KoRn) and Cory Taylor (Slipknot) - There is alot of emotion in their singing.

When I write lyrics I follow Slipknot and Rage - because I like making it complicated.

Name: Frosty Jaymz (the alias used in my band)

Instrument: Lord of the Strings (I play guitar and all the blazing leads)

Band(s): Spill Your Drink (guitar), More Shamelessness (bass), Sir Slurpee (drums, every now and then), No Stars and Stripes (guitar and bass), Backstabbing Friends (guitar)

Music style:

Spill Your Drink: goofy adolescent, sometimes political punk rock *rocks like: NOFX, Propaghandi, Good Riddance*

More Shamelessness: ska punk *rocks like: Less Than Jake, Operation Ivy, Rancid, Mad Caddies*

Sir Slurpee: goofy humour punk rock *rocks like: The Vandals, Frenzal Rhomb, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes*

No Stars and Stripes: all out anti-Bush, anti-war social-conscious political punk rock *rocks like: Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Against Me!*

Backstabbing Friends: screamo! *rocks like: Thursday, The Used, Thrice, Fugazi, Matchbook Romance*

As far as instruments go, Im using the same guitar I've had since I was a hatchling. A '57 reissue Fender Stratocaster.

It had triple single coil pickups, but I got tired of it so I gutted it when I was 11, right before SYD made their first album. I put in a Seymour Duncan Distortion humbucker and I love it.

Recently, it got stolen and soon recovred, but tore up. So Im repairing it as we speak.

My guitar now is a cheap $50 Squir *made by Fender* strat that I bought in a pawn-shop for $30. It sounds awesome once I modified it.

My amps are a Marshall JCM 800 head with a Marshall 4x12 cab. I have no clue what speakers are in it, but I recently took 'em out for Electro-Voice 400 watters. I bought the head online at a music store in Illinois. Cost me $100 because the owner liked my music. '<img'> *warm fuzzies*

I hot rodded it and put in Electro Harmonix 6550 tubes, same set up as Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osbourne.

I use no effects at all, but Im trying them out on the new records.

For strings and picks, I use D'Addario 10-56 custom guage strings and Jim Dunlop Tortex 1.00 mm picks, the blue ones.

Cables are Monster, Good Monster cables.

I sing just whenever they need back ups. As for writing I follow whats in my heart.

I play the trumpet very well (ego, hehe). I am going to learn the piano. I can sing, and have been told that I have a nice voice. Me, I think it's a dissapointment I can't sing over a C...damn my alto-ness... (will be the first to get surgery to fix alto-ness!'<img'>

I don't have a band, but I did get an offer to be a vocal for one just today. I said if they sent me the lyrics and notes I'd send them a .wav of my voice singing it. Hopefully it will go well '<img'>

Influences include early electronica like Tangerine Dream. Along with bands ranging from Hawkwind, Uriah Heap, Juno Reactor, Dimmu Borgir, Possessed, Trance & Rave music in general, and some prog jazz like John Mclaughlins Mahavishnu Orchestra. Als stuff like drum circles.

Mainly a synthesizer & bass guitarist for performance. My original music tends to be rocking jam type dance stuff & imagination stirring ambient. Rythum base for dance stuff is layered percussion via a Zoom RythmTrak 234. With synth pads, fx, & occassional leads added to that. Sometimes uses bass guitar for leads. Some stuff isnt melodic, but is more entended for the same purposes as drum circles. Other stuff is more just atmosperic synth strangeness. Also fools rond with electric guitar, But only occassionally uses in recording or performing. Music band name is 'Darkstorm'.

Latest CD is mini album called "The Furry Fire". Dedicated to the fun, playfulness, & spirit of furryness & plushie animal pal stuff. 3 track thingy with one each of: melodic rocking peice (Title track), rythum oriented jam thing, & one nonrythmic nonmelodic atmospheric peice. The latter two being based on images or idea of plushies & furries helping a kid let go and become more in sync & free. In the title track, the kid has become more so, as result of his experience from the party (Party Naked peice) and dream work experience (Flip peice). So he's able to rip pretty well with the furry band that he's playing along with. So the other two tracks are kinda a look back at what got him to that point.
Enjoy living.

Hey.  I'm new to the forum and this is my first post, so being a budding musician I thought I'd start in here.

I play guitar (both electric and acoustic) and the vocal chords also.

I'm influenced by LOADS of people and musicians; way too many to get them all down in this post.  But lately my biggest influences on my writing have been Peter Murphy, Deftones, AFI, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, H-I-M, The Cult, Ryan Adams, Slipknot, Stone Sour...only to name a few.

Odd mix I know, but at the moment I'm really trying all sorts of stuff and seeing what I'm capable of.  So I'm really trying my hand at the heavy AND soft stuff.

Well.......I played trumpet in HS marching band and after in a Drum and Bugle Corps. (Bluecoats)...and now, I am a DJ/KJ (new job...part of the reason I haven't been around as much) at a local bar. usually I play heavy metal/rock on Wed-Fri and mostly hiphop on Saturdays. This is because of the crowds that come in.

I used to play the trombone back in middle school and early high school, I could probably still play one to if given the chance. But currently I play the guitar (I hate using a pick) and native american flute rather well, I'm also learning to play my cello better.
But as far as influences go, some of my biggest ones are; Switchblade symphony, Yo-yo ma, and too many others to mention.

Guitar is my main instrument, but I also play keyboard.
On both instruments I focus on chords and chord sequences more than any other musical aspect.
That's just my preference. I can do the other stuff, but I just really love working with chords.
I also sing, and I can play just about any instrument I get my hands on if I really try.
I have a unique guitar. I play an Applause by Ovayion. It's a small travel guitar. Not only is it's size convenient, I love the sound it produces. Most guitars have way to much base for my tasts. A lot of that is because I'm into Celtic music, and I'm mainly interested in playing various folk tunes and ballads.

As far as influence, I'd say I've been influenced by Clannad more than any other group; basicaly in the way they use the folk scales(technicaly modes) with modern tecniques, and a blend of new and old instruments. Other modern Irish groups do that to, but Clannad has had the greatest influence.
At one point I was even studying Irish Gaelic so I could sing more Gaelic tunes, but I'm now out of practice with both music and Irish.
Unfortunatly I currently have to live with an uncle who's a music critic(he plays 70's and 80's rock guitar and thinks everyone should play like him), and it's really hard to practice with someone looking over your shoulder and giving obnixious comments and "advice".

Furryoke would be simple to do, really.
Just change the lyrics of popular tunes to suit the furry universe (if need be).  The only big issue would be to get the CD+G files made...which isn't hard, either.  Just a matter of replacing the text on already made ones, or just make your own.  Plenty of authoring software about.

I'm learning the acoustic guitar, as well as the keyboard.  I'm mainly a vocalist/lyricist though.

My musical influences range from The Bloodhound Gang, Limp Bizkit, and Eminem to Metallica and Queen.

The only band I've been in was just an on-the-side, boredom something-to-do thing with my friend.  It was a comedy rap/rock band called "Crayola Johnson and the Huckleberry Trio" (which we found amusing because most of the time it was only 2 of us, except that we occasionally brought another friend in for some songs).
I was a lyricist, vocalist, and I made all of the computer beats (as well as mixed and edited all of the songs).  My friend was another vocalist/lyricist, and the third guy we occasionally brought in was our guitarist.

We made some ridiculous songs, some of which I'm embarrased to be involved in, but the kids at school seemed to get a huge kick out of the CD.  My favorite song we did was called "Please Don't Write on this, Julie", and it really wasn't about...anything.  We pretty much improvised the whole thing with random lyrics, and it actually turned out pretty good. Was very fun to do, too lol.

I'd really like to start a real band, but I don't know many people who can play instruments, and I'm still learning.  Though I'm looking to start a sort of techno/synth-pop band with my one close friend.
