Furry Music?
« on: January 05, 2004, 04:56:42 pm »
As those who read my first post here will know, I'm mostly a musician, and I'm interested in starting a music homepage that's slightly more furry than my current one (which has my rl name on, so you'll forgive me for not posting it on a public forum, sorry).

I was wondering what other furs thought about music - furry art and literature are fairly easy to categorise, but can music only be as such if it features lyrics?

Most of the furry music hosted on Furtopia seems to be of the dance/techno/house variety and have little or no lyrics.  The thing that makes it furry is that it is done by someone who considers themselves part of the fandom.

I've written some lyrics that are furry themed that have yet to be put to music, so I would consider those furry songs once they are complete.  '<img'>

Music is furry if it is something a furry would feel. If it is something a furry created. Both of these are furry music.

Look at some furry sites with music-a lot of them don't have lyrics. So, if you're a furry and make music, that makes your music furry.

That's my opinion, anyway '<img'>

Ah, ok. Well I've had a song written for a while now, didn't have any lyrics, so I've started writing them (figured my first composition after my 'furry realisation' should mention it somewhere).

Once I've got it all snorted I'll just have to find a way to internetise it, though if anyone is good with lyrics and would like to get involved somehow feel free to ask (I need all the help I can get when writing lyrics, definitely not one of my strong points  '<img'> )

I've been trying to figure out what "furry music" is for quite sometime since I am, apparently, a furry musician.
And if'n ya notice.. most "furry musicians" write instrumentals...  So how's it work?
When you figure it out, let me know.

Hmmm... well if that is true then I suppose that we could call it a genra all it's own then.

Individual #1:  "So what kind of music do you listen to?  Rap?  Pop?  Country?"

Individual #2: "I like it all but I usually listen to Furry."

Hehe, you *could* I guess, Drakalu, but Furry music can also be classified under those genres, too.  Ah, the confusion.

Most of my music is instrumental. But yeah, even as a kid it had themes of worlds where pawed & hand'd critters participated in making music together. If I ever do a video it will have furs in it playing music & getting down along with furless friends. I do a lot of layered electronic percussion with the dance stuff. The atmospheric, non rythmic stuff too also ussually creates images with furred animals and worlds to in my mind. Designed a keyboard in my imaginaton that suited to paws rater then fingers too. Semicirclar with wedge shape keys. When I listen to death metal ect and imagine, I ussually see some form of bunny just flailing happilly at drums with all his paws. Haveing a blast. I cant help it, furyness just seems to be in my blood and even music without trying to do that. Loves the muppet band from muppets. When I do flute type synth voices, its allways with image of a satyr. Guitars ect played by fingered furries like elves. Though images of bass guitar playing dragons also occur for me sometimes. I'm weird. LOL.
Enjoy living.

Nah, you're not dude...I think all that sounds pretty cool.

In reply to the whole topic anyway: I think if you're furry and you make music, then you make furry music.  'Nuff said really.

If its written with furry themes specifically in mind, I suppose. I write music, and some of it I consider furry (most of it) and some of it isn't. Usually when I write music I have animals/nature in mind (I write alot about the moon ':p' ) but sometimes I write with other things in mind, such as when I do a commision. But when a person listens to music they didn't write, they might interpret a piece with furry themes when it wasn't written with furry themes as an inspiration. So I guess what is and isn't furry music is very subjective. But for some reason some instrumental music just seems to jump out as furry to someone. Stuff like Jumpy's "Degraded". For some reason there's something in it that seems to strike most furries as furry music.
Well I'm just confusing myself now. ':p'
