Air cooling achievements

It took me 8 fans and a big heatsink, but I managed to get a Pentium D (and an original one at that ^^) at 3.2ghz, stock settings, to run at room temp! ^^

Sometime I'll post pics of that setup :P

I also installed a second fan and heatsink on the video card for that computer. (ripped that fan/heatsink assembly straight from an AMD 486)

What have you done with air cooling on your computers?

Would be Smithfield 840 or Presler 940?

What CPU heatsink are you using? What case?

*Checks Nvidia monitor*  Right now my Wolfdale E8500 (all at stock settings) is running at 127 Degrees Farenheight, but I have a junky cooler.  :P I'm getting better one in a few days, and after that, I'm overclocking!

ummm... it's a presler 940, and we all know how much heat THOSE make O_o
It was a cheap thermaltake fanless heatsink that had a mounting option for a 120mm fan
The case is one of those ancient things from the "beige box" era: it's rather banged up, and I left an open drive bay  to facilitate cooling, as well as having cut a number of holes into the back of the case as well...

I just checked online, the TDP on that thing is right up there is the core i7.  :P

at any rate, I got it down to the ambient room temperature (78F). Before it was idling at about 150F to 160F...

In other news...
I finally installed my new Case and heatsink! (Antek 1200 and Coolermaster V8) Overall CPU idle temp. is down 14 Degrees.  :)
I might start a new topic where we can post pics/stats about are rigs, just so I can show mine off.  :P

My primary computer is the original line of phenoms, it's an x4 (second fastest clock for the original line)
I was going to get an i7, but then I heard AMD was going to release yet another something sometime soon, so I decided to wait and see what happens...

I believe that was the 965 3.4Ghz Black. Although I've heard they already have a 125w version in the works for christmas/new year time. Haven't seen anything about others beyond that.

They have plans for the i9, though that might be what you are referring to... they are also planning an i3 and i5 (i3 I think is their low-end mobile one? not sure...)

The new Lynnfields are out now.  Two i7's and one i5 model are out, all using the socket 1156, rather than the 1366 of the i7's have have been out for a bit now.  I'm still gonna wait for for the prices of the 1366's to drop.  Have to wait a year or so before I can afford anything as it is...

Oh, and I think Weisseman was talking about the AMD you have.
