Those little mini icon things on the tabs

You know those mini icons on the tabs and addy bar of I.E. that act almost like a logo for a site? I've noticed that several of mine are showing icons from the wrong sites. For example, while on Yahoo, it shows the little pencil icon from LJ. Not all sites are like this though. Is there a way I can force I.E. to refresh those icons so they show up correctly? I tried CTRL+F5, but that didn't work. I've had it happen in the past and it just seems to kinda correct itself over time, but I've got a lot more doing it this time around and a couple of not-so-family-friendly site icons popping up for g-rated sites.

Do the icons that pop up correspond with sites that were previously open in the same tab, another tab, or just completely randomly (like, you wouldn't need to be at the site before)?

It's only been icons for sites I've visited before, and doesn't matter when I visited them. I can go so far as to reboot and open a fresh browser window to Yahoo (my home page) and it still uses the wrong icon. It's always the same wrong icon too. So when I said for Yahoo it uses LJ's icon, it's always like that and not choosing them at random.

Here we go.



You'll notice the icons in the browser tabs are reversed, but I picked those just for illustration with common sites. It also does it when there's only one tab, and they stick with a particular domain. IE Yahoo is always showing the LJ icon, not just picking one at random.

I am using IE 8 mostly right now on W7, but I've had this issue in the past on IE7 with XP and Vista too.

hmm. I'd go with Avan clear your cache idea and see what it does if you haven't tried that already.

I'm not sure how this would have happened in the first place. Seems such an odd thing to happen. It doesn't really affect the browser in any way so you might have to live with it till it fixes itself x_x

Maybe Avan will have better luck with it.
