Congratulations Storm Fox
Thank you Mylo.

Congratulations Storm Fox.
Thanks Old Rabbit.
Happy mod birthday, Storm Fox!
We're so glad to have you!
In celebration, why don't you tell us something about yourself? Tell us the story of how you became a furry! Make it a good one.
Thanks Arbutus.
And a story… well, I'll see what I can do here.
I didn’t actually become a “furry” per say until I was about 20, but I’ve always fell into that group that likes to say that they’ve been one before knowing what it’s called.
Growing up, I never had many friends in the traditional sense, so my friends were my parents cats, my dog, and so on, you get the idea.
When I was older, still a kid though, (10 or 11), I started drawing various animal characters, usually just nameless characters, both feral and anthro.
I also had the typical furry / pre furry interest with animation, (all the usual movies like Watership Down, Balto, Disney‘s Robin Hood, the Fox and the Hound, Lion king, etc.).
And things pretty much continued on in same manner until around 2004, when I came across a picture on Google…
I don’t remember what exactly I was looking for at the time, (probably drawings of foxes or something).
But one picture I came across,
[This One], which was hosted on a different site at the time, struck my interest.
Thinking it may have been a character from someone’s comic or story, I proceeded to look for where it originated from.
But instead I found more drawings, and more artists as well, which also led to more websites and so on.
Eventually, by reading the information and stories on many websites, I came to understand this thing known as the furry fandom that I had simply seemed to stumble across.
I ended up reading through much of the history of the furry fandom which I pieced together from different sites.
I learned much of how the fandom came to be, and a lot about the drama and nonsense that accompanied it as well.
What with unfavorable press and even separatist movements and such, I was surprised to learn as much as I did about something that I had no idea existed in the first place.
I questioned a lot of the things I came across, maybe even with a cringe or two as well.
But luckily, I was diligent in my research, and was able to see through the nonsense and understand what the furry fandom is really about.
Finding that it is for the most part, a collection of those with common interests, (good valued interests no less), that of which are very much the same interests that I grew up with.
Whether that’s as a hobby involving cartoons, comics, games, cosplay, etc.
Or things that are far more deeper, like the beliefs of Therians, or Otherkins, which are often brought into the fandom by means of drawings, stories, and other associated similarities.
Whatever the reason things came to be, I found that I was in good company that is not really any different from what I’ve been for as long as I could remember.
And so, instead of having to change to fit in with some group, I had found the group that fits me.
I am Storm Fox, and I am a furry.
