Help For A Photoshoot in Chicago
« on: April 12, 2012, 02:43:34 pm »
Im a 23 year old photographer in Chicago that's looking to do a shoot focused on furries. It's an idea I've had in my mind for awhile now and would like to finally act on it and hopefully turn it into something special.

While it's not something that I'm into personally, it is something that has always intrigued and fascinated me.
If anyone's interest is piqued, let me know and we can talk more. I'd love to learn about the culture/life of a furry. I think having a better understanding of everything would definitely help me with this and help make turn it into something special.

And just a heads up, I can't really travel far, so it would be best if you're in the Chicago area or are willing to travel.

I look forward to hearing back from anybody.

Moved here to Photo/Vid forum from Artwork Techniques forum as the topic seems better suited here.

You might be interested in arranging to be at MFF under a media pass (see the Photography and Video Filming section of this page).  MFF is a furry convention in the suburbs of Chicago, and it's probably your best opportunity to meet a large group of furries in your area.  Unfortunately, the next MFF will be in November; it'll be quite a long wait.

If you don't want to wait that long, you may also be interested in seeing if anybody in LAFF might be interested in meeting with you.  LAFF is a large furry group local to the Chicago area, and some people from there might be willing to meet with you (but see the paragraph below first).

A warning: furry as a culture tends to be media phobic.  More likely than not, you will end up with considerably fewer interviews than the size of the pool of individuals you ask might otherwise suggest, particularly if you seek interviews from LAFF instead of MFF (the latter has escorts for media persons and, from my understanding, a vetting process for such individuals, which offers interviewees a sense of trust of the interviewer's intentions).  Also, in the case of LAFF, you may have better luck talking to the head of LAFF directly about this (I don't know who he/she is off the top of my head) and/or asking them permission to post your request to the mailing list.

I hope that helps.

Aw, shoot. I'm not far from Chicago, but I'm in KY for school and summer. I might be back in mid-June for a few days. Other than that, MFF in November might be the best bet. Although I'm sure there are other local Chi-town furs. Try the Lake Area Furry Friends (LAFF) to see if there's some interest.
