resin base
« on: July 02, 2014, 03:26:48 am »
I am going to anthrocon again and just finished my suit two days before the con, only problem is that I absolutely hate the head. I'm not sure how but at some point the whole head failed; its too big, you can't see anything, it looks kinda terrible (depending on your style preference).

now all of this disaster has me thinking about different ways to improve on my next suit and how I can make it perfect. the only way that i can think to get the realistic look I want would be to use a resin base, but I don't know anything about them. also I would probably make my own, I don't like using ready-made stuff.

anyway, I was wondering if you guys can tell me the pros and cons of using a resin base, tell about the process of making one- sculpting it, furring, visibility, ect.
I would greatly appreciate it.

My two main character fursuits have resin masks. Resin is a polymer and can warp in high heat or if stored in an unsupported state. When not being worn, such head pieces should be stored on a foam head form or at least with the head filled by a large plastic bag stuffed with crumpled newspaper.

Some beauty supply stores sell wig stands. These clamp on a table and have a post which fits into the hole in the foam head base. This set up is usefull when cleaning or grooming your fursuit head piece. If you are handy with PVC pipe, a stand could be made from plastic pipe and fittings.
