To get this thread started and artists to start posting their artwork here is a example (non-entry) from me.

Here is the url for the larger size: "WhiteShepherd"

What does this piece mean to me? Well, it is of my beloved soul mate, WhiteShepherd. I wanted to draw his fursona but I kept having troubles getting the pic just right. It wasn't till several months later, and a lot of practice on other pieces, that I was able to come up with a look for the face/feet/hands that I truly liked.

Every time I look at this piece I smile and get warm all over because I know how much love there is in this piece and what it represents.

Here is my entry into the art contest.  The tree climbing Dragon in this picture was something I saw when I was inbetween waking and sleep, sorta like a day dream.  He was playing a version of hide and seek, though I never saw who with.  He was excited and bouncy and very energetic.  He seemed to think that that tree was the perfect place for him and shimmied right up it!  When I woke up, I felt the urgent need to capture it here in the physical world.  So I set to work for the first time in my life, intent on completing a full picture drawing on the pc with a Dragon in it.  It's only my second PC attempt ever and one of a rare eight or nine drawings I have done in my life.  I am happy with it and think it holds the same emotion I witnessed in the twilight sleep.

http://www.riverceed.furtopia.org/treeclimber.jpg

And on a side note, I was looking through the art which has been submitted thus far.  I think it's great!  Congrats to the other contestants and good luck!!  So far I think all the ones I have seen should win something.

And to those of you who are looking through this thread and thinking you can't draw.  B.S.  I don't draw very much at all.  I am a writer.  But when you are inspired you never know what you can do.  And you certainly never know until you try.  So get those pencils etching and see what happens!  :winks:

Blessings,
River

Shooting Stars

When I was talking to my friend Carl, a moment in time stoped and he asked what it was that made my art so magical. I told him it was the fact that all you had to do was close your eyes to enter another world after you saw it.

Oh yes, I am entering this into the contest. The local Furries seem more apt twards anthromorphs here....there are so many beautiful animals on this very world still to draw.

Nyao. I'm posting the first of the two pictures I'm hoping to enter in this contest. Both of my pictures are part of a group I'm calling 'Furres in Motion'

This one is my Breakdancing Tabby And I decided to post this one, of the group I'm creating, first because I really like the way that the body's positioning came out. I wasn't certain if I could do a picture 'in motion' at first, but it seems I can. '<img'> Inked, and colored on Adobe Photodeluxe. Background was created in Photoshop.

I really had a difficult time picking which pieces to enter.

I knew I wanted to enter my Sea Dragon first. I really love how the body language of this one speaks to me of graceful play.

But for the second entry I struggled until I finally decided to go with Blue Ribbons. It's not for realism, which I am usually swayed by, but for her pose and expression. She seems so delicate there with her cool indifference.

And Good Luck to my friends and other contestants! The entries look just great!

Cead Mile failte (100,000 welcomes) to all of the great entries so far.

May I add something here just for some fun.

I did this piece as an actual illio for one of my books, The Last of the Pack. Hi-5 shows the brotherly bond between the main adolescent wolf character and the human boy.

The next piece I did for Anthrocon this year.  Long Lost Brother shows my spiritual connection to the animal I most admire, the Grey Wolf.

Have fun all of you, and I can't wait to see all of the entries.   '<img'>

Slainte!

Weeh! I'll join in, shall I? ''

"Off into the night"

This picture is very special to me because it's the first picture of Ravane after her transformation into a Vampire. This was decided after a very beautiful dream I had the night before, about a Vampire boy and his family or Coven I often dream of.

Enjoy!  '<img'>

well, i dont consider myself much of a pro, but i do try to work hard. i met a very caring and fun loving dragon by the name of dragomike, from greece.  while chatting, we found out we both loved star wars and both had the same game (jedi knight: jedi outcast).  so, we both agreed to draw each other as jedi and wot not - here's my version.  the only analysis i can imply on this is: dragomike is rougly 19-20 ft, loves to 'smoosh' others *hug them through his massively overweight scaly body* and is very caring. so naturally, he's not shown doing anything nasty, and simply hugs the droids - some of which are correctly colour coded as seen in the star wars films (crimson = security, yellow = officer, blank = normal battle droid).  the choice of colour lightsaber goes with the main colour of the character.  i spent no less than 12 hours on this picture in MS Paint, i hope it looks okay.
i hope this counts, cos its not tecnhincally furry, although he's very soft to hug '<img'>
i apologise in advance for the large file size, but in any other format, the time consuming effort is lost in image degregation.
http://www.kuga.furtopia.org/stomach%20squadcfinal.bmp

the second picture IS definetly furry. it was actually my first commission too.  tyler, a friend of mine, asked for a picutre, and it was decided to do a picture of us stuffed on pizza - i dont know why but it seems all my work of late shows FAT furs! hah - well anyway, i had never drawn fur before, or a background, first for two interacting characters.  this picture was also my first frontal pic.  i also tried to add a distinct impression of dimensions and perspective by 'bending' the image (noticeable the table and faces).  althought the picture looks simple, it took also over 12 hours to complete.  i spent hours and hours just on adding shading, highlights, shadows, bouncelight, and detail. that wood effect is all paw drawn.  the gradual shading (noticeable in the wings) of dark around the upper regions, lighter out of shadow and slightly lighter gray near the edges of the wing skin adds to the subtle shading and lighting i was aiming for.  of course, the focus of the picture should always be on the subjects, and for this reason i simply added empty plates and messy fingers to show the pizza craze before hand.another friend driven picture.

Hello =)
I'm Meanbean, I just found out about this contest when Kuga posted a link to it.
This is my entry: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Meanbean/SilverHeart04_LQ.jpg

Let me explain what this picture means to me. I've been reading a lot of dragonlance books these days, and I've more or less fallen in love with TSR's view on silver dragons. While many people -including me- dislike their strict colour-based hierachy and behaviour patterns, the silver dragon is to me the one redeeming aspect.

In the Dragonlance series, silver dragons could die from a broken heart. There were two sidestories in which a silver dragoness fell in love with a humanoid. Both were tragic romances. Those dragons were huge, with magical powers and practically infinite lifespans. it takes a lot of love to still want a small, mortal lover.
Even more I was most touched when I read how a 300 ft long ancient dragoness stayed in love with a (somewhat shallow) elf who rejected her many years ago.
Love and obsession as deep as the one described there is something I am most envious of. While I wouldn't want my partner to go through such hardships, I would certainly love a partner who is that madly in love.

Hence this picture. It is a giant dragoness, who is madly in love with the person in the lower left. He however, doesn't want to persue a relationship. She is a dragon, with immense physical strength, magical powers, infinite lifespan (cut short by her partner's lifespan) eternal youth, an immense hoard, etc etc, while he is essentially a nobody. Yet she still wants him, and cries.

Any resemblance between me and any of the previously mentioned unnamed characters is purely coicidental.

-Meanbean

But that was not the purpose of this specific picture. Here the size difference is because of the different species: dragon and human. As far as I could tell, there are no references to female dragons being larger on Krynn.
