I'm a big fan of Drum and Bass, Breakbeat, Psytrance, Breaktrance, and some trip-hop from time to time.

Right now I'm liking stuff by Pendulum, Hadouken!, SGX, The Crystal Method (as always!), and Renard's DnB stuff

Mostly metal. Sabaton, Firelake, zYnthetic, Power Quest, that ridiculously loud Finnish industrial stuff I heard a couple months ago, whatever. Interestingly, I seem to be developing a liking for smooth jazz haha.

As far as an actual genre goes, my main favorites would be much of the Power metal, Symphonic metal, and Nordic / Pagan folk metal areas, as well as certain Alt/Prog metal bands.
And since most of what I listen to tends to blur the lines between genres, it’s easier to just list my favorites…

Amberian Dawn, Dark Moor, Dragonland, Dream Evil, Epica, Firewind, HammerFall, Kamelot, Keldian, Masterplan, Nightwish, Pagan’s Mind, Primal Fear, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Timeless Miracle, Týr, Within Temptation, and Zonata,

I’m sure there’s many more that I just can’t think of at the moment, but those are the upper, upper part, of my playlists.

Storm Fox, you should check out Conception if you haven't yet. It's Roy Khan's old band before he joined Kamelot. It is some pretty fantastic stuff.

I'm pretty much into metal as well, though I tend to gravitate towards heavier stuff like death, black and doom metal. A few of my favourite bands would be Dark Heresy (they released one album, but it is pretty good avant-garde death metal - check this out), Deicide, Paradise Lost, Anathema, Virgin Black, My Dying Bride, Bolt Thrower (who write the coolest music ever), Darkthrone... there's a lot, haha.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll definitely have to check that out.

I'm not much into the heaver death / doom metals, some, but not too much, (the screaming vox effect that a lot of those bands use as a lead vocal never really appealed me). *prefers a more lyrical sound*
For example, from what I just looked up on YT, I do like what I heard from Virgin Black, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, and Anathema, but the others just don't hit me.

Either way, I've got some interesting stuff to look up now, thanks Dusty.

Well those bands I listed weren't really supposed to be suggestions (just chiming in and saying what I like), but I'm glad you appreciated some of it. The whole growling thing is just part of the aesthetic of death metal - some people appreciate, others don't. If you kind of like more traditional sounding stuff, you might want to look into, say, Candlemass or Solitude Aeturnus if you want doom metal - Virgin Black, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema tend to (or used to) use a lot of harsh vocals (though they're not always so abrasive e.g. this).

I don't have a particular favourite sub-genre, but in general forms of Rock music is my favourite.

Ah, …well your second sentence seemed to pick up where the first left off, so I thought it was a relative, either way. Upside down Smiley

Also, I’m compelled to mention that I’m familiar with Candlemass, and Solitude Aeturnus. Wink
Candlemass, to me is a little hit and miss depending on the lead singer, (since they have had so many different ones over the years).

And as for Solitude Aeturnus, …I grew up listening to these guys, and while I prefer something that moves a little faster, I’d be lying if I said that they weren’t good.

Haha, I guess it might have seemed that way. I did try to segregate the part relevant to you and the other part with a couple of enter strokes, but oh well. I also guess that Solitude Aeturnus and Candlemass might have been a bit too obvious, but I wasn't sure because it seems you hadn't heard of Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride etc. and they're also very prominent doom metal bands, albeit a bit more extreme. I'm pretty fond of most of Candlemass' stuff that I've heard (first album, couple of the ones with Messiah, King of the Grey Islands) but the band does tend to swing rather wildly in what they're doing from album to album, haha. Cool that you're into Solitude Aeturnus too, though yeah, they're a bit slow and to be honest I'm not totally familiar with all their stuff (plus, some other bands like Memory Garden do the same sort of thing but chuck in other influences, which comes out a bit more interesting).

My doom metal knowledge is a little spotty and patched together, as my main interest tends to be more in the power and symphonic metal region.
Though I tend to like most any style of music, as my main issue is how a song is structured and how a band preforms it, rather than it’s defined genre, which leads me to know of some bands but not others of specific genres.

Anyways, thanks Dusty, for all of the band recommendations over the last few posts, (it gives me a lot to check out on the net).

I migrate from musical genre to genre.  The most common trend in all of my favorite songs are that they have no words (or at least, discernible words) which includes electronic, classical, etc...

Christian & Gospel and Religiois music for the most part, heavy Christian stuff like Skillet, Pillar, Thousand Foot Krutch, and bands like that is what I'm talking about Cool I do love my rock, hard rock, and a lil bit of the classics.

It depends on my mood:

Depressed= Emilie Autumn ("Victoriandustial")
Happy+Perky= some form of J/K-Pop
Gonna kick your but into tomorrow= pretty much everything else I don't cover
Gonna kick your but into next week= 30 second to mars, linkin park, ONE song by eminem (toy soldiers)
Gonna kick you so hard you vaporize= Skinny Puppy, Five Finger Death Punch
I... just need a lol...= Weird Al
Serene and peaceful= Wordless pieces, Celtic Women

... Of course, there are exceptions in every category! ^^; But that's why it's music, no? Wink

Death and black metal mostly. Also funeral doom metal and normal doom metal, and some deathcore/hardcore/any -core and some electronic.

Basically, I just love music that is heavy, fast, aggressive, atmospheric, and/or dark.
