How do you do it?! People always say, when you write, it comes from the heart and the soul! I can't write lyrics, because I can't put my feelings into words! I could write a book or draw, but you don't get the same feeling you do if you can accomplish a song... This makes me sad. Does anybody has any tips? Sad *distraught*

Fffffwwwaaaa... I don't know if I speak for all here, But I certainly get a good feeling from writing books and drawing. Any art, even dancing or glowstringing which I do, is an expression of your emotions and thus gives off this feeling you are talking about. Maybe for you the feeling is more prominent with music, but I'm just pointing out other forms of art give off the same feeling.

To me at least, songs are basically poems. At least the writing aspect is just a poem, after that there the whole complicated process of music and rhythm that honestly just confuses me to the ends of the Earth. I don't exactly know how they write music. I can tell you that for me, it is poetry. Yes I have written some lyrics, and they just come off as poetry that needs some instruments set to it. Now when I write poetry, I know that it all just comes out as a feeling. I think of poetry as more of Vent Writing. I posted one of my "poems" here and it was ALL just me ranting or venting about my feelings. I don't think I am any good at poetry, and I don't like writing poetry. Lots of people tell me I am good and ask me to do more of it, but to be honest, I don't like poetry all that much. No offense, but I just enjoy the character and writing about a person that goes through a change and writing about the scenes and the situations. This can be done through poetry, but I'd rather write a novel. Just me though.

So what I think really helps music, like any poetry, is emotions. If you have an emotion that is particularly strong, that should be what fuels your writing. Use your emotions as an inspiration, and don't follow some concrete plan to write. Just let whatever comes to your head be sent through your fingers into the writing being pushed along by the emotion you have allowed to take over. This is just my belief though. To be honest, all my lyrics suck. I also think my poetry sucks, but whatever. Writing in general really follows emotions anyways, so I say let emotion write for you.

P.S. - Distraught is a good emotion...

Hey, Dark! I love writing lyrics, and it's true it does come from the heart and how you feel. It's something that takes a lot of patients and determination to accomplish. I'll write a short little guide about how I write my lyrics, and see if this helps you!

What I do, is I first find a subject to write about (an experience, feeling, etc...) then I sum it all up into anutshell.

Second, I write a small paragraph describing how I felt in one way and/or situation, then I write a few paragraphs like that for other verses. A verse to me is like you venting a feeling in a few lines.

Next, when I have all my paragraphs looked over and shaped, I play a little tune I make up on my own in my head, how you want it sung, and take those paragraphs and make each one into a verse of the song.

After that, I look at my verses and move things around, put new words in, and mess with them and sing them over and over. It's figurative writing, so you can be as creative and original as you want!

Lastly, I smile and sing the song over, if something needs to be changed, I think about it deeply, and change it.

Think deep, Dark, that's the key. Don't over complicate the lyrics and have fun. What I keep in mind is "When I feel this way, what would I want to hear?"

And remember (the 'and' is because of all the good advice posted above), you don't have to limit yourself to lyrics and words! If you have an un-tagged melody in your head that your trying like crazy to put words to, try playing it out on an instrument first- it may help to hear it somewhere other than your mind. Important as a soon-to-be-fellow stringster!
If you want to play more than one strings instrament, start big, then go small.
Not only will it make it easier on your hands, it will have you smiling gladly at the price reduction. Wink

i used gorrilla glue and put it all over the break in the headstock and neck, then clamped them down with some clamps, and wiped all the excess away, when it dried,i put a screw at the bottom of the break so it would hold it even more.so far,its all good! Cheesy

btw,its just a regular electric guitar i put in a steel guitar tuning Smiley
