Oh, they are most definitely cliched lyrics, no doubt.
But that they are also about the most familiar hymn lyrics of all time (outside Amazing grace, of course) is the main reason I used them. Revamp of the context and message of an old song. Rather than the traditional context of being a happy note, it is almost bittersweet - I guess. Comparison of "flying away" with running away is also in the forefront, and for a reason. The final section (would that be a tag or something else?) makes it clear that running away doesn't work - that I still was forced to face it and find the answers anyway.
...Guess it was a point of running away and claiming "religion" to get their ain't gonna fix it, you gotta face facts and then God will be there to pick you back up.
[Yes, religious reasoning behind the lyrics was intended.]
Now...if I can get that band back going good, we can get a version finished out and recorded (with better equipment).
The main issue we have had is in obtaining a good bassist and finding a reliable place to practice. But a full version shall be done by the end of the summer, even if I end up doing it all by myself. hahaha
