My mate just recently got me into Doctor Who, but I've been a trekkie for years and years. For me I couldn't compare the two shows, or decide to between them! Besides being sci-fi/space related, they're just not that similar. I loves them both!

I don't like either of those shows. I've seen both but not something I'd like to watch.

Watched Star Trek TOS and the animated series when they were first on television. Introduced to Dr. Who through the movies with Peter Cushing as The Doctor. Local PBS stations began showing the Tom Baker episodes in the 1980s. Obtained the BBC Dr. Who SFX and theme music recordings on LP and play them occasionally. Also have a few of the Marvel comics from the 1980s.

The Dr. Who characters were quite imaginitive and well thought out. Sure, there were Daleks, but don't forget the Cybermen, Zygons, Silurians, Sontarans, and...The Master.

I have only seen scattered episodes of either one, but I did see FarScape and loved it. So:

Grew up watching both.  Like both equally but in different portions.

1. Original Doctor Who
2. Next Gen
3. DS 9
4. Original Series
5. Doctor Who TV Movie
6. All ST movies combined (because so many of them weren't good)
7. Voyager
8. New Doctor Who
9. Enterprise

Yeah, I think the writing for the new series has gone downhill lately.  Moffat makes less sense than Braga and Berman and that's saying a lot.

Doctor Who hands down.

David Tenant best doctor so far. Matt Smith is not bad so far. New season should be starting soon.
I didn't watch much of Star Trek, but some of the Generation series with Piccard.

The problem with Trek is that it's too "predictable".  Tongue There's episodes where you know pretty much what's going to happen for the whole episode just from watching the first 5 minutes. And there's too much rehashing of storylines and morals, values, and ethics. And lastly, the creatures and aliens in Dr. Who are far more better and a greater diversity than in trek. In Trek, all the producers ever did to show a new alien race was to apply some new prosthetic makeup to an actor's face or change the hair/clothing style, then call it an "alien". How boring.  Tongue

This. This so very much.

Doctor Who all the way. I never could stomach any of the Star Trek series.

WHO can resist the DOCTOR  Wink I've watched all of the modern series and some of my favourite episodes have been with Tennant. Its not just the varied and imaginative aliens and planets I love but also the way the doctor faces villains. Normally in other shows the hero and the villain duke it out until someone dies, but the doctor tries to understand them instead and find a better way of resolving the conflict.

Can't wait for the new series Cheesy

New season starts tonight I think.  I started with Tom Baker's run. Cool.

I like the new format of a continuous storyline. I would like to see some technobable and tech info put into the show.
It's like, Doctor has problem solve with magic sonic probe.
I also think...The Doctor needs to stay away from little girls!! LOL
