Upgrading, such and so forth...

I've switched the board's database over to the MySQL format, which should perform faster than it was while it was using DBM. We'll see how it goes.
Anyways, you may notice a few links in the 'last post info' broken for a bit, but once the posting resumes, those should just fix themselves.
Enjoy!

By the way, I've also installed a hack on the board that permits me to change a specific user's name on it. If you need to have your user name changed for whatever reason, feel free to contact me via a PM, or one of the many IMs that I use. '<img'>

It's also useful those that register their name as all lower case letters and realise that it stays that way in the board and can't be changed by the user. Heh. So, it's a good fix for helping those folks. '<img'>

Another hack I've recently put into place was one that takes the forums listed in subcategories and lists them in a drop down menu that's viewed on the main board page.
You can use the drop down menu to go directly to whichever forum you choose there, or click the subcategory's name in order to see the full listing of forums with their respective info within that subcategory.
The reason this was implimented was so that the loading speed of the board's front page will be much faster with the new hack in place... especially as more and more artists get forums hosted here.

And no, this new feature does not affect the forwarder URLs that are assigned to each artist discussion forum. It doesn't disrupt that at all.

Enjoy! '<img'>

Hmm... I noticed that a bit ago. Very nice. It does certainly does shrink the board down  '<img'>

Nice hack, Keep it up.

Hey Benjamin - I like what you did with organising the artist's boards.  Having the drop-down menu works much better than how it was before.  I also reduces loading time quite a bit.  Thanks a lot.

If you use the private messenger system, you may notice that the layout in there has changed. I've edited it to look more like the user control panel skin that I did a while ago... so it looks a lot better now, in my opinion.
I worked a few glitches out of the code in the meantime, too...

Enjoy! '<img'>

Yes, that does look a lot better overall.  Though there are a couple of small mistakes in there:

Hmm. Thanks. I can fix the first easily, but will wait on the other, since that one takes a bit more digging. There's lots of errors that I didn't make in the standard language files on these boards. '<img'>

I've also been hacking the board a bit again. If you have no avatar or are using one of the avatars supplied here at the board, you won't see a red X beneath the menu in the control panel or your messenger anymore. It should either show blank for no avatar, or show your avatar, no matter what sort you have.
Enjoy! '<img'>

I fixed that second nitpick of yours, DrakonianDancer. '<img'> Thanks for bringing it to my attention, at least.
I've also fixed a few other things with the messenger's skin. Little things that I missed before. Now it's looking extra spiffy. '<img'>

If you wanted, I could really nitpick, and say point out a slight grammatical error.  Underneath where you fixed 'A brief overview of your messenger', where it says Address Book, in the description, the word friends should actually have an apostrophe after it: "This allows you to store friends' membernames for quick reference"  And I've just noticed another small grammatical error - the end of the sentance does not have a full stop . there.  Same with the Inbox description, too.  Thinking about a previous one, is membernames even a real word?

So am I the king of nitpicking now?  ]B=8)

I'm not sure if I can use apostrophes in the code there anyways, since it may mess up some things. As for the full stops, I can fix those later at some point. Personally, I'm concerned a little more about the design than the finer details in the grammar. '<img'> Those can be fixed anytime, anyways.
I'll probably comb my way through all that sometime soon. I once went over the user control panel very closely, and will give the same treatment to messenger system, too.

I feel the look feel and useability is most important.. grammer can be fixed anytime..
Also in code a ' can cause big proablems.. it is used to end or seperate code strings..

Keep up the great work Benjamin, and if there is anything I can do to help. Just let me know. I am here.

I wasn't being serious about changing the grammer; it was intended as a joke to Benjamin's "nitpicking" comment ]B=8)

That reminds me of something that happened on Club Furry's BBS...
A fur had horrible typing and spelling skills, so another decided to remark about his bad "grammer" in a bit of a snooty fashion. I made sure to correct that fur in turn, reminding him that it's spelled "grammar" instead. '<img'>

Heheh...

Anyways...
I've added in a little hack for new registrations. It lets you choose to not have your gender displayed. I don't know why that option's not there in the first place, since you can just clear it in your user control panel anyways. '<img'>

Added in a new statistic into the profile view here. 'Total topics started' is a statistic that shows how many threads you've begun on the board here... in case that's of any interest to anyfur around here. '<img'>

I've added in another little profile feature. It simply states your 'post rank' and shows how many stars you've got based upon how many posts you have on the board. No biggie, but it should help balance the tables for most profiles on here. '<img'>

I've added in a little hack that helps make the pinned topics look all the more noticable in any forum they may reside. You'll be able to see what I mean easily enough. '<img'>

That's an interesting one.

It looks quite nice in the profile there - I like it.

Yes, I see - they are posted in a box above the normal posts.  That's a good idea, as they do stand out more now.

Good work with installing these hacks, Benjamin.  It's nice to have these extra features on here for us, and I appreciate the time and work you put in to sorting it all out.

Thanks, DrakonianDanceR.
I like to find hacks that I think would be useful here. There are a lot of available hacks that I don't think we'd have much use for, but others out there are pretty good.
I've also been catching errors with a couple of the hacks that were made, so I was able to help the the writer get them fixed... which is a good thing, of course. '<img'>
