THe rule is... if you are male, then you have a hard time drawing females... and if you are female, you have a hard time drawing males.  No surprise, the reason is because you aren't as familar with the body of the opposite sex as you are with your own.

When I first started drawing furs, my males were't that great either.  But I guess nowadays I'm an oddball because I feel like my males are better then my females.

Wow.. that is completely opposite of me.. I have the hardest time drawing females!

I'm sure with a bit of practice, you'd have them looking fine!

Funny, I always kinda found the opposite true for me. I've never been very good at drawing males, yet my females I'm always contented with.

Maybe I'm something of an odd man out, but I kinda wonder if it isnt more of an each-to-his-own sorta thing.
You can mainly find me in Furtopia's IRC.

All of the male illustrators and cartoonists I know draw awesome females. They say it's the "fanboy" thing--not having access to actual girls until later in life, they studied magazines and books until they were able to have real models.  The result is that they could draw both real-type and cartoony girls, or make a cool combo of the two.  Same thing with lots of the female illustrators/cartoonists, including myself.

One of my favorite female illustrators, Jen Seng, draws some kick-arse guys. Her muscle structures are superb!

That's the same problem I have with drawing females.  The breasts always look awkward or wrong.  Maybe I need to study more ''

I think that's more of the case, I'm much better at drawing males.  I mainly draw males, it's because I get somewhat frustrated drawing females sometimes.

For one, I think that most people have a natural proclivity to draw one gender or the other. There may be something of a trend as to the artist's own gender, or sexuality, or whathaveyou, but I don't really know. I think I tend to draw better on a masculine figure, what little I draw.

I hate to disagree, but...I disagree!

I'm way better at drawing females than males :P

That's how it is for me. And I'm sure it's because of what you said, that it's not being as familar with the body of the opposite sex.

I notice a lot of people here say that's not how it is for them. But I would think it'd come down to which you are the most familiar with.  I would imagine that in addition to which you are, which you prefer may play a role in that as well. For example, I'm a lot better at drawing foxes than most other animals probably because I like foxes more. (and I'm much more likely to draw foxes than say... people for example.)

Ultaro: Never heard of that rule before...Have you seen my females?

Anyhow...Objective here is to realize the differance betwixt the Femme an Masculine.

Males: Square, strong, even if lith have a box-like build. It is what draws the female mind to it. (Handbags are square arent they?  :P J/K)

Females: Curved, circular, fluid like water, even if they are strong, they still have the frames of a female and its beauty. (Guys like round things...its a fact '<img'> )

There are quite afew sketch artists out there that can teach you the -rules- for male and female anatomy, since all Furries are  in whole when it comes to art, are Human bodies with an animal head. Naturaly, with all art, do what YOU feel is best.

Must be newer artists or something then.  I taught a fantasy illustration class for beginning artists and teenagers and they all seemed to have that problem.

I for one am female . I am way better at drawing males, I hate drawing females most the time unlest I'm doing a furry. Furry females I like to draw, but my human females well let's say they just suck and I HATE drawing them. Most my art is anime and anime males is something I enjoy drawing.
I have no clue why I am the way I am. I like drawing human males and furry males, and sometimes furry females are fun to draw, but human females I just will not do.

Ultaro: I find that the reason most people go to art classes in the first place is because they need help learning to draw. That might explain why so few were up to par.

I couldn't really say...they are both about the same difficulty to me  '<img'> Even though, being an overly self-critical artist, I end up feeling like I fall short on both  '<img'>

My girlfriend tends to complain about the women I draw, though. She's partial to full breasted, slender characters, and I tend to vary in shapes and sizes. So my case is more subjective  x.x

I tend to draw females more. Being a toon style artist for the most part I don't do well with the human body as far as muscle structure is concerned. (Female or male)  And as others have said. I usually mess up on the boobs. Oh well a few more years of practice and hopefully I will do better. ':?:'
