First attempts at sketching
« on: July 20, 2008, 06:50:41 am »

My first real attempt at drawing a full sized fur.... any pointers on what I need to improve would be much appreciated seeing as I'm new to this  :-[ (hehe i already had to rescan it after realising she was missing her right thumb  x_x )

Hey, what a great start! I love how the ears are set onto the head. Very cute.

I probably wouldn't like to critique this, simply because it's your first full sized fur. Heck, you should've seen my first attempt at drawing a running horse! So much fail for a single piece of paper, haha.

Instead, I'd love to encourage you to draw more and give us a better taste of your style and what you enjoy drawing.

Anatomy can be a very hard thing to master, with artists devoting anywhere from years to decades to get them to look right. I'd certainly suggest that when you are drawing, you have a human anatomy book nearby that's directed at artists. ("Dynamic Anatomy" really helped me, as well as a few others I have lying around). That way, when you come up with a pose, you can refer to your book and get a better idea of how an arm would rest in that position, or the hips, or the legs.

You've got a really good start going on here. I'd love to see more :D

Well, that is certainly good for a first attempt! Much better than I did.  :-[

the only thing I will add is reposition the tail, pull it in further, and set the tailbase a little higher.  use references as a helper as well.

*smirk* she looks like there's been a cub using a single side, there
