Hardcover Sketchbooks
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:13:30 am »
Hello everyfur.

I'm attending a art high school starting next Monday. (15) And when I look at the art supply list, it says to get hardcover sketchbooks. The one I use is a Acadmie, the one with the sketch of a hand on it. I find it easy to use.. I've been drawing on it for years as well as computer paper. But I was wondering.. is it expensive? What is the hardcover sketchbook to get..? How can I get the most for my buck.. after all.. my mom is paying for this.  '<img'>
And Iíll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom,
Iím as green as the ring on my little cold finger,
Iíve never known the lovin' of a man,
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand.

T think I brought this up in another topic...

To be honest, I don't like sketchbooks.  Period.  They're way too soft of a surface for me to draw one.  However, when I have to use them, there are several options.

1.  A store called B. Dalton sells some nice looking decorative sketchbooks for under $10.  If you don't have this particular store in your area, I believe it as a child company of Barnes and Noble... so you may want to check that store.

2.  Your local craft store will probably sell them.  In the craft store near my school, their price will probably range between $10-$30 depending on the quality.

3.  I know you may not have this option... but my college bookstore sells them as well for $14... and they are crappy quality.

Another thing to not, is that you should always feel the paper on the inside before you buy.  I always go for a nice smooth texture.  Rough texture seems to make pencil lines harder to erase.

*now* is the perfect time to look. Back-to-school specials are on and I just saw a nice 20" sketchbook (hardcover) in Staples (stationary chain out here) for $7 '<img'>

I use a hardcover but I forgot what its called. I got mine at Fred Meyer for only 9$ in the gift section. They didn't have it in the art section which puzzles me to no end.
