How do you INK?

I still use the old way of arting; by hand on paper.  I pencil it first, ink over it, & erase the pencil.
All inking is done using various widths of Micron-type markers.

I used to use quill pens, and was very pleased with the results.  But they were very messy.  I'd like to get back into them someday; the dipping ink can be thinned with water to create a nice cloudy effect, and the ink itself really is forgiving if you want to experiment with other media in the same piece.

I've tried using brushes & it was a disaster.  Which is a shame because there is a wonderful smooth flow that a brush gives to a line that I just can't capture with a pen.

I ink with Rapidograph Pens. They are refillable ink pens that are great for general inking work, they have nice Crisp lines. But they do require maintenance and are expensive. If its a large patch of black I'll use a brush and ink. On the computer I'm a fan of Vector programs such as InkScape (freeware!!) and Illustrator over Photoshop, but thats a personal preference.

I tried a lot before I settled on using micron pens. They work best for me, also a fine brush and fountian pen ink can be nice too.

I use OpenCanvas version 1. Fairly quick and simple, the pen tool works really well for me. And there's that handy edit:undo button I love so much. After that I just drag it into version 4.5, stick the inks layer at the top, and commence with any coloring that needs done.

And Iíll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom,
Iím as green as the ring on my little cold finger,
Iíve never known the lovin' of a man,
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand.
