I Need Help with Faces
« on: December 09, 2008, 06:50:30 pm »
I want to improve on drawing faces and heads for that matter. I'm unsure on where to start.
I draw Krystal and Lucario which have fox heads. Can some one give me some advice on how to draw them more effectively?

I'll tell you now that furry heads are way harder than human heads.  Since there's a lot more dimension going on, you have to be more conscious of dimension and perspective in that case.  If you have any specific questions or want any personal-experience-tips, feel free to ask me through PM or Skype or AIM or anything.  I will enjoy helping!

I might actually start up drawing thanks to me being a furry.

I cant draw from scratch for anything but I can copy with my eyes pretty well. These will definitly help if I start to get more into drawing.

If you interested in lucid dreaming just drop me a PM or stop by the lucid dreaming thread I'll be happy to answer any of your questions.

When I draw faces I just let the initial circle I make tell me what the thing is gonna look like...I never know exactly what I'm gonna do when i start. But i always start out with a rough circle and use guide lines like the first site that was recommended...those guides are your life lines.

But the best piece of advice I can give that an art teacher told me....draw what you see not what you know is there.

At any given point when you look at something you can't see everything. If you looked at a person from the side you would only be able to see one eye, one ear, part of the mouth right? I know that sounds silly but as soon as people do a 3/4 view or anything other than side or straight on things get weird...parts of eyes get covered by nose bridges, ears get covered by hair, cheeks and chins distort mouths...just remember everything effects everything else...hope that helps  :-[

Especially the eyes.  There's a lot of variation that can go on with the eyes, probably more so than any other feature on the face.  In my opinion, they are the most important thing not only on the face, but in the entire drawing.  Take extra care with them and make sure they convey what you want them to.
