(giggles) Double post take care of.

In your sketch he looks like he is going to fall over to the left.

I don't look at other photos to 'copy' their poses. I look at specifics. Like for instance in your sketch. Look at a photo where some one is kneeling like yours and see what is wrong with yours compared to that of the photo. Take pics of yourself and use them for reference. You won't be using someone elses post that way. I do that with WS and our dogs.

As for suggestions:

His arms need more detail and an elbow joint. Look at arms and the way they are shaped and where they bend etc. The same with legs. The torso as well. I don't look at the WHOLE picture I look at parts of it and then try to improve one at a time. They eventually all come together.

And I know you know practice is going to be the best advice someone can give you and that is only because that is what really helps. Practice doing arms, hands, heads, feet, legs etc.

For the legs, the one kneeling I think the foot should be more behind its leg and the leg should be more to the left to balance the body.

His legs also look too short for his body. Lengthen the legs more. The foreshortening of the one looks fine. Just make the viewable part longer.

Hope that helps.

I've learned alot more since i last posted. Anyway here is Lordred Jernon, Ethyn's evil brother. Enjoy  '<img'>  (btw his weapon and legs where cut off by my sketchpad and i'm not the best at drawing on the comp yet, so i just kinda blurred them) Also i could have done better on that bad whitish ouline around him but i was tired

I must say, very much improved!

As for looking at photos, don't look just at the poses. Look at the different parts of the photo. Basically, you are dissecting it. Look at the hands. The feet. The legs. That is what I do to help. I find a pose that I am drawing and look at the DETAIL of the muscles etc. That helps a lot. Also, I look at the shadowing of the photograph.

Just keep looking and practicing that is about all you can do. I can see the improvement since your last post! Don't give up now! '<img'>

Viewing the piece head on, the piece of armor on the leg on YOUR left has a little edging to it. If you make that edging on your other pieces they will look thicker and depending on how thick you make that edging is up to you. Make sure where you put your edging though it would be viewed that way when you actually would look at it.

Heyllo again. I've updated Lordred after watching some more of my tape. I thought i would post up the new one. The outline is much better and look at the texture i learned how to do on his armor. If i learn more stuff you'll keep seeing more of him hehe.

I'm going to college for Video Game Art and Design and I were to make a char for a game this would be my first choice. Hope you all enjoy. Worked on it all morning and afternoon.

Oh sweet!  I'm going to school for that, too.  What school do you go to?
BTW, I just wanted to say that I just found this string of posts and the progression of your art throughout is amazing!
You seem to pick up fast.  I'll suggest to you that you should take some life drawing and human and/or animal anatomy classes.  Then you'll be unstoppable!
Taking those classes was the most valuable thing I've ever done.  And because of that, I signifigantly improve with each art piece.
Don't ever pass up a good opportunity for art classes.  Even if it's basic stuff that you've had before, the practice is great.  After you graduate, if you ever find any art classes that are affordable, TAKE THEM if you have the time.
One of my best classes was 3d design and sculpture.  We did sculptures every day.  I'll tell you.. if you have problems with doing different side views/rotations/whatever, SCULPTING will help you pick up concepts in your mind.  Seriously.
In fact, go to Random Art Store X and pick up a block of plasticine.  That's that grey oil-based clay that never dries.  Start sculpting..anything.  It will promote the discovery of new concepts in your mind.

Hope I could help you at all!

Good luck.  =^_^=

I have got accepted somewhere, it's just a matter of 'getting there' and money and all. Still alot i'm trying to figure out and get done, getting a job and learning to drive to. But in the meantime i do what i can to draw.

Can someone help explain the dodge/burn tool to me. I did read the help but it just showed me 'how' to use it. I see it lightens and darkens, but i'm trying to see how that differs from the actual Lighten and Darken tool i have as well. It says something about Highlights, Halftones, and Midtones. Those i'm not sure what they are. And i think it mentioned Exposure as well. I want to get a better understanding before i start the shading on my new picture.

(giggles) Ok, I won't comment on the hands.

Your arms need to be a bit longer too. Stand up and let your arms hang down to your side and touch your leg with your fingers to get an idea of where they would be on your body. Same with your elbows.

I also had troubles seeing his head/face. Wasn't quite sure what the top part above the neck is supposed to look like.

As for the dodge/burn tool on your program does I can't help there since I don't color on the computer. But, I can suggest to try the tools and then save the image as a test or number it so you don't mess up your original. That way you can 'play' around with the different settings and get a feel for what they each do.

I hope that helps!

Well i wasn't sure what to do, his skin is fairly dark purple. His face mask was a dark black and brown, so i did my best with it. I did fool around with that tool and that did help. The arm i thought were right when looking at my model cause i was trying to show them 'coming at you' maybe i didn't go a good job as i thought i did

You may need to try and blend the brown and purple of the head so they look like one piece and add some highlights around the brown part of the head to make it stand out a bit, it that helps.

The arm that is lifted, his right, since the lower part of the arm is facing us it should be the normal length. The rest is fine since it is foreshortened.

The left arm, looks off but I can't put my finger on it. It doesn't look like it is coming toward us if that is what you wanted to portray. Perhaps repositioning the armaments on his arm and more shadowing? I'm not exactly sure.

You're getting some cool visual affects around your characters.

Well the head i dont see why i would combine the brown and purple since the purple is his head and the brown is his face mask. but i'll try lightening the mask some more.

Ah, ok. How about a little black outline around the mask to show it isn't part of the actual face? Or white line or whatever color you choose. Something that sets them apart.

Now, remember this is just my suggestion. You don't have to take it if you don't wish too.  '<img'>
