I'm drawing a picture of Amaterasu and I desperately want to capture the entire style. The coloring I can do, but it's the lines I'm unsure about.

Couple of examples:

I'd like to catch that block oddness of the lines, you know? All I have is The Gimp right now, but I'm going to be upgrading in the next few days.

Should I get photoshop? Could it do this style? And what tools would I use? If anyone has any advie not using that program to, please do tell.

EDIT: For those of you that might have seen it, I accidently pressed enter too soon, so I added the rest of the post now XD

Hey there.

What I think you should try to do is draw the image you want to do normally, IE: Draw Okami fan art like you would anything else, and then, before you ink it, erase any un-needed lines that normally would give it more details. Hope that helps.

If your going to draw it via gimp via tablet, the Ink tool doubles as a calligraphy brush. there are also calligraphy brushes out on deviant art too. Okami, following traditional japanese style, uses calligraphic lines. If all else fails, uses the paths tool to make the blocky lines, though it would take forever and a day.

Yeah, I was thinking that calligraphy tool would be the way to go. unfortunately I don't have a tablet, but I think I'll try to free hand it instead of using the paths tool. That indeed would take waaay too long.

Thanks for the advice guys!
