I was trying to create a DeviantART avatar by shrinking an icon I found on the net.  I opened it in MSPaint and shrunk it using the strech/skew thingy but DevART wouldn't accept it even when I shrunk it so small I could hardly see it.  Can someone point out whatever mistake I'm making so I can finaly get a DevART avatar?

I dont know anything about resizing in MSPaint but I can resize the pic for you if you like with my photo edit program. Just PM the image or post it here and Ill send it back your way.

For resizing animations www.gifworks.com works pretty well.

I have stumbled across that problem a few times at forums. Since you ruled out the size problem, perhaps it's:

- The image format maybe incorrect. Most forums allow only .jpg or .gif, with more and more accepting the third biggie, .png

- Too many colors. While a .jpg has no other option than "true color", .gif is limited to "indexed" to 256 colors/greyscale and less, or 1-bit binary (y'know, like halftones and stuff?). If your image program does not correctly "tag" the .gif with the color level, it could be rejected. PNG's should be "indexed" too, as they can be complex in nature if not "simplified" '<img'>

Another excellent and freeware tool is XnView.

DA avatars have to be 50x50 pixels. That may be the problem.

Irfanview is a good progrma for shrinking images, saving them as other file types, and a few art techniques. I use it a lot. That's how I resize my scanned images, because the scanners always save them so freakin huge it's impossible to work with otherwise.

Oh yeah, Irfanview is freeware, and can be downloaded Here.
Fruitcake is a legitimate gender in my book.
