Why's PS on a pedastal?

Who's with me!

I'm with you.

PS is on a pedestal because marketing people tell you it is.

Problem for the thinking consumer is you have to buy it to try it and if you don't like it, too bloody bad.

GIMP is 100% free, does everything PS does, accepts PS filters and scripts, can read/write in Photo Shop's .psd format for compatibility and there is a Win32 port.

<<edit>>

I thought I'd add that yes, I have tried almost every PS up to 6, no it ain't just my *nix arrogance talkin' '<img'>

I hate it when people are biased when it comes to what type of media the artists use. IMO people that use real media are no more superior or inferior to those who do their art digitally. I think the best artists are the ones who use both medias. Sorry to come off rude and misreading people's words. I tend to do both.

Well, almost. They have CYMK and color management support in the newest version now, so the only thing still missing (as far as I know) is 16-bit color channels. I'm not sure lots of furry artists will sorely miss this, though. '<img'>

I personally never computer-colour any of my works.  Of course, when I get my copy of Paint Shop Pro back, I may try some computer colouring, but I love to see hand-coloured images more.

As regards to the argument, I think that everyone has their own preferences.  Personally, I'd LOVE to see more artists who are proud of their hand-colouring skills, instead of hiding it all behind majikal filters.  But there we go.

Well, I'd have to say that I take pride in never coloring or really messing with my pics with a computer. I scan it, correct it, and put it up online somewhere. That's about it.
Although i may try my hand every once in a while with some sort of thing like photoshop, it's won't be my primary tool.
And really, I can't afford it. But I'm more than satisified.

That's so neat, you have great stuff!  I love finding artists who mainly hand-colour.  I don't mind CGed stuff, but when people ignore hand-coloured and put it down and all.  Bah.

As for PSP, I will give it a try maybe when i ever get my copy back :P

I'm sure this subject has probably been done to death... I came in a little late, methinks.

I don't much like to color with Photoshop. Something about how the brushes and some other tools work just doesn't sit with me very well. Instead, I do all my normal coloring jobs in Open Canvas, and I use Photoshop to make skies. I find that I like how skies look more when I use Photoshop than when I do them with Open Canvas. I think it's all a matter of preference.
I bid thee farewell, oh furry fandom! May we meet again.

You're right. I apologize to all for my "open-source" arrogance in all the related threads '<img'>

PS has incredible amount of potential in the hands of a skilled PS user.
I myself lack the skills to make good use of most tools found in PS, so I tend to use openCanvas to do most of my drawing. Has everything I need to do stuff.

OMG! I can hit a button, and the picture goes all fuzzy!

seriously, alot of good "artists" draw crappy pictures and make 'em look all coom with the FS effects. But if you gave 'em a pencil and paper, they can't do anything.
