What inspires you...
« on: June 06, 2005, 11:34:59 pm »
What really inspires you? I want you to look really deep within yourself, beyond just "anthros look cool" and tell me what you really love about art. For me it's other people. I love to find out about different types of people, talk to them, hear about their passions, their lives, even people I don't like are interesting. I want to try to capture these people, the good ones and the bad ones. It makes me feel good to know I'm not alone. And it's not just limited to humans, animals, plants and even make believe creatures, we're all playing out the mini-drama that is life.
So what inspires you?

Honestly, I don't know.

When it's time to draw, there's like a dozen of my characters in my head trying to get out and onto paper.

Maybe I'm just mad...

It's really therapeutic for me. Not to mention that, like CarLOS, sometimes I have creatures in my head demanding to be drawn. And also, like Sskessa, I like portraying life.

What inspires me to draw is when I am thinking about something new I haven't done before or an old idea I haven't done in a while.

Sometimes it is something that I have watched on the TV.

Because I can't. There is no greater motivation for me to try something than someone telling me that I won't be able to, and in the case of art my own lousy pictures are enough motivation for me to keep trying.

As for furry art, I do that because I want people to eventually be able to see me as i see myself. (meow)

My life has been rich with sci fi and fantasy media. Seriously my mom used to put on Star Wars when I was like three and that was my babysitter. I read the works of Tolkien before I was a decade old. And of course there was lots and lots of cartoons.

It's seems only natural that I was drawn to forge my own ideas out of the maelstrom of other peoples ideas that I have accumilated over the years. I guess you could say furry art is one of my comfort zones because it takes me back to childhood memories, but at the same time it allows me to reflect the adult inside an all the trials and pains that he must endure.

Wow, that was a little more slice of life than I was expecting.     ''

I think it's just the awesome feeling you get when you can have a picture in your head, visualise an image to represent a thought, and put it down on paper. I used to get so frustrated when I was a kid because I would imagine all these elaborately detailed images in my head but I couldn't get them to come out the way I wanted them to. Now I can though, and it makes me happy.

My sketchbooks are like a journal for me, when I look back on them I remember exactly what I was doing or feeling, or where I was at the time. It's cool because these are little details that only I would pick up on.

One thing that inspires me is an actual event that happened to me. I just take it and change the setting with a place I've thought to be a paradise and person(s) with anthros.

I often look at some of my favorite artists TOO get inspired! Especially Cara Mitten's more morbid work, and Ursula Vernon's (OMG, I'm not sure that's her name... '' ).

Often, my best work turns out to be when I've sat down with a pen and just go. Those setions are always the best, because there is no previous image to see in your head and be dissponted with what came out on paper.

I keep a collection of other artist's work on my computer... so in case I ever find myself in an art block, I can look at them and possibly get some ideas/inspiration.

i lurve to draw! i do it for several reasons...
1. takes up time at the end of an ICT lesson (or any other for that matter)
2. stops me annoying my folks
3. helps me chill out or vent my anger

I have stories in my own head, or things I've shared with my love. We talk about the chubby critters that we share between us, characters that we adore. I try to capture moments from our stories and get them on paper... most of the time, it doesn't turn out quite right, but I keep trying anyways. It's a way to record my fantasies.
I also find inspiration sometimes in looking at other artists, seeing techniques that they're using. Sometimes a photo online will get me thinking, or something I see on TV, or even something from a real-life situation. I try holding those things in my brain and then transferring them to paper later. Also making a record of those inspirational moments.

hmmm things that inspire me... Good music movies and anime... Strong emotions or attachments to people... Because art breeds in my soul  ''  also characters in my head begging and pleading and screaming at me to draw them hehe '<img'>
Otacon: The storage room to Metal Gear GEAR is locked...

Snake: Tough luck then... Let's go home and have pie.

Snake: ... Then the terrorists have already won!

On eof my favorite inspirations is music, but really, anything could set me off. I have previously been inspired to doodle from the following oddities:
* a stain on a bench (became a chubby angel)
* a piece of bubble gum that someone stepped on (didn't have paper at the time though, and have since lost the image  ':p' )
* a smear of chalk dust on a blackboard (became a floofy swishy birdy)
* studying for an archaeology final (became a Quetzal decked out in Mayan fineries)
* the name of one of the authors of my biology textbook (started as a wolf, turned into a horse with feathers in its mane)
Fruitcake is a legitimate gender in my book.

I find inspiration in many things.
Sometimes like HockeyRaven I see a idea in a spot or pile of objects. In music mental images form.
Looking at other artists work.
Or just random doodles start a idea.

One fine idea I got from Wendell is to just look at words.
Their meanings can be the basis for endless drawings.

I find I do it because I have to. I also don't find it therapeutic at all. I think maybe 1 time in 10 I am actually happy with a piece. But when I am, the good feeling is 10 fold. I think like all things that you become passionate about, you hate it as much as you love it, but at the same time, you just can't stop making it because it is the fabric of your being. It is natural to want to create. It's our way to give back.  Also, for me - art is a crucial component to furry life. I want to do work which can be respected from both sides (furry and non). I know furry artists get mocked/bashed a lot, and I really just want to push my work out there and say "HA! Furry art can kick a**!", and hopefully create more respect for furry culture. So I guess what drives me is the desire to make good work. Not work that that my friends will think is cool (that's easy!'<img'> but work that is genuinely good that everyone can appreciate.

I am inspired by just about everything.  To me, it is an endless sense of amazement that I can translate thoughts to images, and then create a form of those images that everyone can see.
Dragonfoxes are crafty creatures, although highly protective.  They love a good prank, prefer to be loners, and this one is highly artistic.
