I can't speak for the dress code of steampunk cons, but I will say that it isn't too hard a look to make for a mild look.  Get either some suit pants or work pants, an off-white collared shirt, and a vest.  Get a pair of boots or fancy leather shoes, and leather gloves.  Accessorize with a leather tool belt and chains.

I been told that  but its stating  to bother me.  It like say one need to get a ears and  a tail to go to a fury convention . can one enjoy the  genre without costuming?
It not  that  I  would entertain dressing up I just only heard about this three days ago.

Well I haven't been to a con but I plan too and so far I have seen that there is no requirement like ears and tails. I didn't even know there were steampumk cons. But anyway I'd be hard for me to dress up cause all I have is synthetic clothing ( cargo pants, nylon shirts) so I couldn't if I were to go. But A little off topic, have you heard of guns of Icarus? It's a very fun steampunk airship combat game maybe we could play sometime if you have it?
