Midwest FurFest, Nov. 18-20, 2011
« on: June 21, 2011, 01:56:03 pm »
Any Midwestern furries planning to go to Midwest FurFest in Chicago this year? Has anyone gone to this convention before?

I'm completely new to the world of furries and super interested in attending and connecting with others who are going.  :)

I got to meet lots of furtopians and say hi to people last year. I hope to do the same this year!

Hey Mila, as a point of Order, please add in the Dates of this convention into the subject title. That will help people out a lot.

I'm hoping to make it there this year!  I want to meet up with a bunch of Furtopians and see all the sights! :3  This will be the first year I will have the resources to go to any cons, so I'm rarin' to go! :D

Probably going with Shim and a few other friends this year, and not for just one day this time.
"But are you going to kill her off?"
"It's not your decision. I love the character, she stays."
"Yeah, well the only thing love's done is put you in this position; I say kill her off!"
"Yeah, but you say a lot of things... and how does that work? You're a bicycle" Claudio Sanchez, In the song Ten Speed of Gods Blood and Burial, which is basically about a crazy old writer talking to his bicycle.

Oh cool! Any tips from people who've gone before?  Best day or days to go?  Best ways to get to know other furries?

Would it be okay if I didn't have an entire fur suit but just, say, ears?   And could I bring non-furry friends with me?  SO many questions! Thanks for humoring me  :)

I *really* enjoy going to MFF (particularly the Lupus games), and I plan on attending again this year.  I just have to hope that I save enough to go before the time comes.

...On a related note, did you know that the United States dollar bill is capable of stretching to 3157% of its original length?  It's (anything but) true!

I'm going to be writing a magazine type piece about FurFest. Would anyone be willing and/or interested to tell me more about past experience and maybe meet up with me at the convention to be my furry guide?  E-mail me if you're interested!!!

Mila, if you plan on writing a magazine piece on the convention, you'll have to obey the relevant Code of Conduct rules on that (scroll down to the section on Photography and Video Filming).  In summary, you'd have to wear an identifying badge and be escorted by a member of con staff while you were conducting the interviews for your magazine piece.  Additionally, the convention board would have to give you written permission to use any photos or videos you take at the convention for media purposes (which I imagine wouldn't be an issue if you were escorted while you took those photos).

I gather from your previous posts that you wish to participate in the convention both as an attendee and as a media reporter.  I'm not sure what the proper procedure for that is; you may wish to email the con staff (their emaill addresses are here, and the most relevant department seems to be Publications).

Good luck with your article!

Thanks for the info, Red Yoshi!  Just checked out the FurFest guidelines. I'll have to juggle writer and furry selves at the Conference. I'll check in with the organizers before I go. See you there!

I'll hopefully be there with a gaggle of GeorgiaFurs. Still need to get room plans ironed out, though.

Really depends on how the job situation is going around that time.

Not this year, but in the next couple of years, I'm hoping to start stowing the occasional hotel-less fur at my house, only 35 minutes away from the hotel :D!

I might, though can't make promises yet. If you're still roomless when I get the details ironed out I'll IM you. :]

My November training schedule has been published and looks like MFF is free and in the clear for me time wise. So I fully intent to go and have already bought my membership. Just doing standard this time, not sponsor, can't afford the upgrade this time around.

Since it took me so long to figure out if I was going rooms are pretty much gone at the con, so I need to think about plan B. If any of you are looking for a Con-going veteran as a roommate, I am looking for lodging.

I'm a Greymuzzle and Con Veteran so I am wise as to know what to expect at a con and it's rooms. I am a fursuiter also, so I will have need of some space for my boxes and suit. I try to hang the suit when-ever I'm not wearing it to allow it to dry or air out. So I would ask for a space to do so. I will also routinely return to the room throughout the day to change and shower when not suiting. I hate that 'scummy' feeling when you've been suiting too long so I like nice dry fresh clothes when i transition from fur to attendee.

I support the LGBT community and have a penchant of cross dressing at these cons myself. I am never avant-garde with with it so at most all you'll do is double take when I go into my different modes. I do not support the illegal drug user community. I cannot be in a room that openly allows the use of narcotics. Both my military and civilian life will be ruined should I ever have drugs in my system, so I tempt not the fates and do not allow them near me. If you have an open door policy on these activities, I will have to decline the room.

I will leave various things of Hoofer propaganda around the room too. I wouldn't be me if I didn't.
