Meat...
« on: August 10, 2008, 01:35:39 am »
What is one's favorite type of meat.
I prefer lamb or buffalo. tender and flavorful. steak is also acceptable, but never pork. it tends to get dry easily and is hard to not overcook.

I really love lamb but it's way to fattie for my tastes (it's a twice a year type of meal). I really love any type of poultry, although I have never eaten any type of game bird. Any part of a cow is AMAZING. And bacon, bacon is gooooooood.

On a similar note: Has anyone ever tried goat? My doctor (who used to live in Africa) suggested that I try it.

Wow I pretty much like most meats.

I love a good London broil steak or filet or tenderloin. I also like pork tenderloin and poultry, I like using cornish game hens for soups.

I adore pheasant, but it must be a young bird.

I've had venison several times, and it's been so varied; has run from tough & gamey to melt-in-your-mouth nummy (age & diet has a HUGE affect on flavor).  Same results with alligator.

I've had bison several times, & enjoyed it.

Let's not leave fish out!  I love salmon, tilapia, bass, catfish, most white fish.
One of the absolute best meals I've ever had was fresh flounder off the Outer Banks.
And seafood; I love crabs, scallops, & shrimp.

Keyoki, the only time I've ever liked goat was in Indian recipes.  Same goes for lamb.

I'd love to try ostrich meat.

goat is used in Greek recipes as the main meat. if you can find one, go to a Greek restaurant and order a gyros. best sandwich ever.

and yes, fish is important. so is shellfish. crab cakes are the best use of bread crumbs in the world.

Beef
Chicken
Not a big pork person.
I love seafood! I'm from the coast, so it's fresh here, and it rocks.

And deer sausage is awesome.  :)

Chicken is where it's at! You can do basically anything with chicken and have it come out good.

On the other hand, I don't like steak much. Doesn't matter what cut it is or how rare it is or what classy restaurant it's from-- I don't know, I just can't get into it. Hamburgers I can do.

No beef for me.

Everything is fair game. Fish is one of my favorites.

As much as I like a good steak, there's nothing quite like a good broiled salmon fillet... so, so tasty.  And stuffed flounder is nice, too, though it doesn't quite hold a candle to the salmon.

then i bet you've never had a crab stuffed flounder fillet caught the on the same day that you ate it.

Y'know, I have, actually!  And it was amazing, that's for sure.  Just not something I can usually get, unfortunately.  That said, flounder's okay, but not really my thing.  The stuffing's great, but when it comes to the actual fish, salmon beats it hands down.

I enjoy Salmon, but not really any other type of fish. I love beef in all its many splended forms and tastes. Pork is a wonderful meat to me, I love it compleatly. Chicken is my favorite, I like most anything that has a strong chicken flavor to it, so if it 'tastes like chicken' I'll probably eat it. I'm sure I'd like deer more if I ate more than just deer sausage, and I LOVE deer sausage, but I just can't hunt. Not that I have anything against killing an animal to keep it's population from starving. It's just a real hassle, it's early, you have to cover yourself in pee, wear heavy equipment and I just don't have it in me to do all that for food when I can just go to a butcher and get some.

When the end of the world comes then we'll see but untill then...

Edit: I also love crab, shrimp, fried calamari and ceratin types of sushi. (Yes I know it's fish)

I definitely like meat... after years of being a vegetarian (and even a brief stint as a vegan), I can say it is something that I missed and can easily identify my favorite: fish. But not just any type of fish. If I were to be completely honest, I would say Ahi tuna tops the list, served rare, coated in ginger and toasted sesame seeds and lightly seared. It is, perhaps, too much a guilty pleasure due to being over-fished, so I opt for wild-caught Alaskan salmon, Mahi-Mahi, and my regional favorite, walleye. All are great. As for meat on the hoof, bison is my all-time fave.
