Healthy Eating: Wheres the manual?
« on: April 20, 2013, 05:12:34 am »
Hey there,

I am am a bad eater and have the worst diet ever.

Mainly cause I love pastry, bread, pasties and pies so much.
But it's not that I eat them it's my quanity to that fails me.

I do want to eat healthily but I've railed so long against vegetables because I don't really like the look, smell, texture....anything.  Lol I tried and I keep regergitating (not actually sick but forcing it down my throat).  I love meat and I love pastry, but i only like potatoes, processed peas, beans, bananas, apples and orange juice.  Anything else i'm still new to.  My only healthy options at the moment is Chicken Paella and Potato Hash/Corn beef hash.

How do you start eating healthy cause for a sweet tooth like me, I'm struggling :(

Hmm...well, here is what I found through experience.

I have a thing for sweet things as well.  I find that if I eat one sweet thing, then I'd like to eat another, and another, and so on.  :D  However, that is not very healthy, but I like sweet things, so what to do?  I decided to just do this.  First, set aside what kind of sweet thing you want to eat, and if you do have a sweet thing, eat it after a meal, and not as a snack, like a dessert.  For example, maybe you can have one soft sugar cookie.  Focus on the fact that you have just one soft sugar cookie and enjoy it as much as you can.  I find that makes the soft sugar cookie that much more special.  Then, after you are all done eating, drink some tea.  I find that this gets rid of the sweet taste in your mouth, and therefore, the sweet craving.  It makes my appetite go away, at least, and it's a healthy drink to drink.  Maybe you can start by doing that. :)

Or, you can just stop eating sweet things entirely, but that's no fun.  :P

Another thing.  If you drink soda as a drink, I'd stop doing that.  Treat soda just like any other dessert, like cake or a cookie.  So, a glass of soda would be like a liquid dessert, so to speak.  Mentally, I find that it allows me to enjoy the soda that much more. :D  You can replace soda with tea, water, mineral water, etc.  Lime mineral water in my opinion tastes the best.

As with food, it's really about quantity and the speed at which you eat.  If you eat fast, try to eat slower.  If you eat a lot, slowly lower your portion sizes.

If you really want to have a go at it, try eating vegetables again.  Try to eat an equivalent mass of vegetables as you do all other foods.  Alternate while part of a vegetable, then part of your meal, then the vegetable, and so on.

If you find that you want to eat a pastry as a snack, eat a banana or a fruit.

I hope that helps some. :)
