The Meditation

This is a little story I just wrote based on an actual meditation I had a few months ago.

"The Meditation" by TigerWiccan

Mike sat on his couch, legs crossed.  It wasn't the most comfortable position for him, but the discomfort would fade soon enough.  That was one of the reasons to meditate in the first place, to journey inward and disregard all outside interference.  He listened to the soft new agey music playing on his stereo.  It was a mix of electronic sounds and wood instruments.  He closed his eyes and let his thoughts wander.  He saw shapes swirl in front of him.  The cares of his mundane life came into his head and left just as quickly.  He had no need for them at this moment.  They would wait for him to finish.

He saw the shapes in the darkness become more distinct.  They changed all around him, until they formed what looked like some kind of forest clearing.  He could see beautiful, tall trees all around him and at the center of the clearing was a clear spring.  It was night out and the moon was huge in the dark, starlit sky.  No trappings of the modern world were anywhere in sight, and Mike was very happy about that.

He took a few steps forward, and realized that he was walking on four legs instead of two.  He felt his paws padding along the cool, soft ground as he made his way to the spring.  Now on the edge of the spring, he looked down at it and saw his reflection.  He was a tiger, with bright orange and white fur and black stripes.  He dipped his paw into the water gently and watched it and his reflection ripple and calm again.  He was still there, and he was still a tiger.

Just then he felt a presence behind him, so he whipped around and instinctively got into a defensive position.  There was a wolf, just calmly and quite nonchalantly standing there.  Mike heard a very calming male voice inside his head.

"Hello.  Welcome to my home.  Do you like your true form?"

Mike thought about it, and yeah he really did like it.  He nodded his head to the wolf, then heard a chuckle, also in his head.

"You can talk to me the same as I am talking to you.  Just think it."

Mike relaxed his stance a bit, then feeling like he could trust the wolf, sat down on the cool ground.  "Oh.  Thanks.  You said this is your home.  Where exactly are we?"

Another chuckle.  "Far away from where you are sitting on that couch, I assure you.  VERY far away."

Mike hadn't even thought about himself sitting there cross legged in the real world.  He let out a sigh.  "Well the farther away from there the better."

"Indeed, my friend."  The wolf padded over to Mike, and put a paw gently on one of his.  "It was nice to meet you.  I must go now.  Come back here whenever you wish."  He gave a quick lick to Mike's nose, then ran into the woods.

Mike just sat there, still elated from the wolf's touch and in awe of his surroundings.  Deciding he should return himself, he brought himself back to his body sitting on the couch, the soft new agey music still playing on his stereo.  As he slowly opened his eyes, he realized there was a huge grin on his face.
