why are you part of this forum?
« on: May 28, 2009, 07:59:42 pm »
I'm no sure if this is in the rite place but oh well.

well thts the question, why are you part of this forum?

With me I had recently realized that i was a fur and one night scrolling the interweb i found this forum and signed up.
I also use this site as type of escapism to get away from my family and friends in the real world. Another reason is because i can express myself and talk about personal stuff and there are always members who can offer advice which makes me feel better. and it's like my second life what i'm slowly making.

So what about you?

Well I always had a interest in furryism, but was worried that it was some sex thing (I watched the CSI episode before researching). A couple of weeks ago, I finally decided to jump in and become a furry. So I IMed Finnish Fox, since he's around my age and from PA, he told me that this was a great way to start without getting overwhelmed, which is the reason why i'm here now.

I had been away from forums that were somewhat furry oriented for a long time and wanted to get more involved. I didn't want to just mooch looking at artwork, reading stories, etc without doing anything myself and interacting with other furries. This seemed like a friendly place and I signed up. :) Since I've been here I've definitely gotten a bit deeper into things, and that isn't a bad thing at all!  (: This was the first COMPLETELY furry-related forum I've been a member of, so it's fun to be able to just cut loose and enjoy. The friendly furries here keep me coming back and staying. I really love this place, even if I don't seem to do much I read it all the time.  ;)

EDIT: Hey, whaddya know, that was my 400th post!  :)

It all started back in 2003..........

It was a boring night after I got home from work. I turned on the tv and started flipping through channels. I caught a glimpse of the commercial for a Halloween themed CSI episode and decided to watch that. Little did I know that watching that episode would get me interested in not just fursuiting, but also the furry fandom.  :o Before I jumped right in to the fandom, I browsed around the Net and did lots of research about the fandom. I also started looking at various forums to become a member of. About a month later after the CSI episode, I finally decided on Furtopia. It looked pleasant enough and well established, so I joined. :) My main interest on Furtopia has always been the fursuiting and posting in the Fursuiting forum. But I'm always willing to post or help out with any other topic, thread, or forum. :)

The episode was about a fictional crime involving a fursuiter, fur con, and other "deviant" aspects of the fandom. While anything that was portrayed in that episode as deviant was not what I was interested in, that episode did bring back to memory my fascination with costumed characters at amusement parks and such. I've always loved the mascots and would often dream about becoming one and entertaining people. That fascination and the CSI episode is what brought me into the fandom. ;)

I heard about furry in college.  Someone anonymously put it in the pool of suggestions for research paper topics in English Comp.  My initial searches were a little unsavory, so I spooked and forgot about it for a year.  Somehow my memory was jogged (probably by some furry-bashing on Fark or somesuch) and I decided to search a little more carefully this time.  Furtopia came up as the first suggestion for "furry forum" and I lurked a while before joining.  Every once in a while I wish that my first search had been a little more encouraging so I could have found out who the furry was in English class.

Honestly, I chose Furtopia because it was the first result, but I enjoy it here because it's actively family-friendly, pretty stable, relatively drama-free (at least what I read here), and an all-around diverse group.

I joined up around when I joined up on FA. I decided that since I definitely considered myself a Furry, I should get at least a little involved in the Furry Community (I'd heard that was a big part of the fandom). Interestingly enough I hadn't even considered a dedicated Furry forum until one day when I was browsing Wikifur I read about the big hack on this site. That clued me into its existence, so I went ahead and joined up a little later.

And here I am today. 'Twas a good choice, in my opinion :)

I had run across this web page a hundred times over when I was first learning about furry, but I didn't really pay it much mind. It was only a couple of years ago that I actually visited the forums and saw some of the interesting conversations and it's been interesting ever since! So I stuck around for the nice atmosphere and intriguing debates. It's also one of the places that I've found that can talk with other lifestylers without meeting some sort of negativity.

When I was 13, which has been six years ago. I was very involved with werewolves because I saw myself as wolf. Later on, on the web I came to find other's besides me feeling they was animals as well, it was called Therianthropy. Expect people wasn't so friendly in the therian community and it upset me there was so many judgmental 'animal people'. I later was refured to the furry community, it was something simlair. So I joined years back, at a different forum before they changed over to another site. Later on, I left, and was more involved with otherkin, as I later considered myself an otherkin, I feel my soul is non-human so it fit me even better and the people are not to bad in the community, but still part of me enjoyed the freedom of the furry fandom, so every so often I come back to it, because I enjoy animals, animal people, the friendlyness, and the arts. I see myself as non-human at soul and something mostly animal, no matter what, even if I decided to not participate in communities, I chose to come here because the people are friendlier and at lest somewhat understanding of otherkin.

I joined here the year I first went to college. Before I joined the forums in the wintertime a few years ago, I lurked at the conversations and threads on here for a semester until I felt strong enough to reply to a thread. So I had to make an account to do that :P

When I first joined I had no idea what to make my fursona or what to decide on. Over time, sometimes through the help of threads on here, I've slowly come to a pretty stable fursona now.

This forum is family-friendly so I can browse it anywhere I am! Makes it very flexiable. Many fellow Furtopians care for eachother and can be very helpful in times of need.

I hope I can help other furs while here, that's why I stay. It's like one big giving cycle of friends :3

Was having a bit of trouble on another semi-furry-themed forum (for a webcomic), and had a friend recommend here as an alternative.

Well as for this wolf I've loved furry shows like Looney tunes, and Disney shows and I did some research on the net about: what is furry?, who is furries?, where do they attend as for fur cons? etc. then as I was looking on the net I saw www.furtopia.org so I looked it over and then I joined it since it was my 1st furry forum that I ever joined and now I belong to a few furry forums besides this one, plus I know some furries that I have met at AC like Far Ratpor, Streak, Mighty Taurin, Wolfnevets, Kobuk, Woofers, Bacon Strip, etc. (you know who you are since we ran into ea other in and out of suits when we hosted the fur meet and greet, plus I took your pic when I was there.) I do hope to meet some more of you next year at Anthrocon since I'm gonna be the one hosting the Furtopia Meet and greet plus I'm gonna try and do a skit as well.

Hmm... I first found this forum back in 2004 or 2005.  I remember I looked more at the artists' pages than anything else, though.  I knew I liked the Furry Fandom, but I didn't know if I wanted to join.

Then, when I was in Brazil for 2 years without Internet access, I decided I wanted to join.  I planned my fursona completely out and even thought of creating some music in order to become known in the fandom.  When I came back from Brazil in the end of 2007, I joined the forum here with the full intent of setting up a web-page and showing it off to people across the inter-webz in order to become famous or something.

Then I found out that my HTML and digital-music-creating skills are sorta sub-par.  :)

Anyway, there you go.  Fame and riches brought me here.  :D

(the sad thing is that this is a true story; however, I don't regret joining ^_^)

I joined sometime last year. I had been curious about furries all my life but never knew about the fandom or even the word 'anthropmorphic'. I had seen the furry CSI episode a while back but never really thought much of it.

One night I was thinking about it all and figured I could meet some interesting people in the fandom so googled 'Furry Forum' in hopes of finding a pleasant forum with friendly people.

I found this site at the top of the list, immediately signed up and then once I was approved I introduced myself.

I like to imagine the song 'I'll drink to that' By The Mighty Mighty Bosstones sums up my dicovery of Furtopia quite well, though I wouldn't call this place a dive.

New guy here! :)

Same thing as Kobuk, hehe.  Was watching CSI Miami one day, saw it on there, and checked it out.  Coupled with my interest in fantasy literature, it seemed interesting.  So, here I am!

I had origionally been on this forum as someone that Kayle knew and after about what was it three months I dicovered that I was a furry too. Kayle haiyakawa (sorry still can't spell it right) and others helped me realize that it wasn't a huge life changing decision, just an awakening one. Then my school blocked the site and I found thefurryforum.com. After a while though I came back home. Here is where my original furry family started.

Well i kind of found out about the fandom (and subsequently this forum) in a roundabout way, I wont go into much detail as its a long story, but after finding a furry artists website by accident, looking up "Furries" on wikipedia and discovering what they/we actually are (previously I thought furries were all fursuiters, thank you CSI  >:( ), I realized id been one for a very long time.

After that i did a lot of searching for and browsing furry sites and a few days later came across this forum and joined (i had a different user name to start with for a few days before I chose a name for my fursona) not sure why I chose this forum in particular, guess it seemed the friendliest, and one of the most active ones.
