the good news! The ornaments I have with the dreaded 1950's 'black powder' or better known as spent uranium, are not as dangerous as I thought. Bad news is they're still dangerous.  The radon and radiation are gone. But the powder itself is still a heavy metal. Harmful if inhaled or ingested.

The wonderful 1950's. The years that brought us "Who needs a light to write at night?" You guessed it. Uranium tipped ink pens. And "For that festive look all year try Krylon Uranium enriched spray paint." And everyones household favorite, uranium tipped tweezers! Goes with your uranium wrist watch and uranium enriched makeup. Not making this stuff up. The uranium craze hit the Christmas market as well. Everything from glow ornaments to glitter you could spray on your tree.

I think I once read somewhere that the uranium paint that they used for wrist watches was applied by workers who used brushes to paint the numbers on by hand. And that they would lick the brush tip so that they would get a more precise character.  x_x

In 16 days I'll be going to a furcon. Gateway Furmeet right here in St Louis MO.  I knew it was soon. But didn't realize it's that close.  i'm STOKED!

Yep. Uranium was the big thing in the 50's. it was everywhere. It's not the first time people used things that they didn't know was dangerous. Back in the 1800's they were coming out with new synthetic colors. They found some chemical mix that made green. Unfortunately this chemical mix also produced a deadly gas. Killed people as they slept. The use of arsenic  to die leather black. I've seen a black and white video of kids playing and splashing around in DDT. People are still doing stupid things. There as still people using tobacco products today. It's called vaping. When did tobacco become non carcinogenic? Time will only tell what all those chemicals that make the different smells and tastes will do to their longs as well.
It's been said that rats can gain access to your home by climbing up threw your toilet. I prefer to use the front door.

California is getting hammered with snow and rain this season. Look on the good side, folks. Maybe you won't have as many wildfires or a severe drought later this year. ;)

A recent review of trail cam images reveal the return of the fox dubbed "Dixie The Dancing Vixen". She made two random visits last month.

Bought a new Transformer a few days ago and I've been having fun playing around with him. He's probably the most poseable transformer I have.

Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/UFkO8bH

For anyone curious, he is the Voyager Class Starscream from the current Siege: War For Cybertron line.

As a CAP member working with cadets, I must renew my training each year. Received notice that the deadline was coming up. Wound up taking the test three times as the site messaged that I wasn't enrolled. Scored 100% on the quiz btw.

I've been really enjoying new books lately, especially Dig by Sam Chiarelli--it's inspired me to make a lot more 90s themed dinosaur art, and revived a lot of my latent dinophilia!  8)

I've also been enjoying creating Copics illustrations for my lecture courses.

I am hoping my full time interview in two weeks goes well! Pawpads crossed for me!  :)
