I once used a bottle of "spent mixed solvent " to do the same.  But flame thrower is better.

Looks like someone finally found a practical reason to own a flame thrower.
It's been said that rats can gain access to your home by climbing up threw your toilet. I prefer to use the front door.

A long-neck torch fueled by a 20-lb bulk propane tank? I think those were available through Northern Industrial or Harbor Freight Tools.
