I remember a while back, lurking on the forum I saw a stilt design that was just the length of wood, attached to a shoe. I can't find the post, but it got me thinking. I lack the resources to produce professional movie FX level stilts, and I don't want the bulky unarticulated designs floating around that don't bring your legs up high enough. I know it's possible to balance on the design I saw, because the poster linked youtube videos of her testing them out. Would this same design work with a articulated foot on the bottom, for more stability? I'm not sure if it'd make it worse, or better to walk on as I can't physically test it. Here's the quick and dirty diagram I threw together of the design.

That hinge cant be freely rotating, you're going to need a strong spring (I'd imagine a torsion spring in the hinge or if you could work around the shape, maybe something similar to a 1/2 layer leaf spring) - point is you'd want to prevent the bar with the shoe from just dropping
Also this would take quite a bit of practice to walk with, and you'd need to take center of gravity constraints into account too.

I agree with Avan--walking with those would be a challenge! But it is possible, given we can make hoverboards and pogo stilts and Moon Shoes...

So would it be better, if I just took off the joint? And I understand how difficult it'll be to get used to this. I can't remember if it was Furtopia or some other furry forum, but I remember seeing someone do roughly the same thing, except they just duct taped a pair of shoes to 1x2 lengths of lumber. For scale, I'm 5'4 and the stilts should add another foot to my height.

I'd suggest going without the hinge unless you knew how to set up the torsion spring - how to do it safely, and knowing what to get. Hinge would also need to be sturdy too

Thanks for the help! I can definitely see where I went wrong in my design, from the ankle joint to the mechanism I'm planning on using to secure the shoes to the boards and my feet. I have some wood screws I can definitely use to secure the shoes to the board, and some 1"x12" rubber bands I can braid together to act as a tendon, to help with muscular soreness in my calves. Now my main concern is how long my stilts are gonna be though. I'm making ones almost 1 1/2 feet long, which would add another foot to my height and in the video he only made ones that added about half that length. Good thing I'm in somewhat decent shape outside of being skinny fat, otherwise I might just toss this idea out the window. Now to worry about the tail, wings, suit, and helmet. For the tail, should I rig up some kind of cable mechanism, or just let ye olde gravity do the trick with some weights?
