« on: January 27, 2013, 09:50:42 pm »
so I always draw my drawings by hand, and when I look up how-to's people use a thing on their computer. what is it they use. is it some special drawing thing I can download for free or is just that painting thing most computers have, but mine doesn't.

There are tons of options out there if you want to transition from traditional to digital media.

GIMP is a great free program, but I recommend starting out in good old MS Paint if you are very new to digital media. MS Paint is great practice and helps build reflexes you didn't know you had in terms of using a mouse to color an image on the computer.

If you can afford a tablet, WACOM is a great choice. Some kinds have very sensitive pens, so be careful which one you choose. Tablets are superior to the mouse in terms of feeling as if you are drawing or painting on the computer.

Other programs I recommend are Corel Painter (I think the latest version is XI or XII, I have IX), Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator (the latest version is CS6, but I own CS3 and things work swimmingly).

Digital artwork is expensive but powerful. I hope my advice helps!  (:

Another program that I've heard of is Paint Tool SAI, never used it myself but from what I heard it seems that it works rather well with tablets. You do have to pay for this one though.

I use Photoshop with a small wacom tablet. Just about all my work in
the last dozen years has been done on a computer.

It takes a bit of practice to do digital art, but once you get it down
it's not hard at all. One can draw with a mouse, but I never was able
to do very well with one. I would recommend a drawing tablet.  You
can get a small wacom tablet for around $60..

Some feel they need a large tablet to be able to do details, but
I just enlarge the work for details.

There are a few free paint programs out there. Just google for them.

Good luck. :orbunny:
