Virginia is for Furries
« on: June 16, 2003, 08:25:54 am »
It seems like furries are an endangered species in VA, so I wanted to see how many actually call Virginia their habitat.  Artists, poets, writers, and fursuiters are welcome here to chat with each other, share stories, show off art, anything. '<img'>

We're a few, but proud breed.  Thanks for the shout out.  I live right at the edge of I-64 with one foot in the ocean.  I wish it would quit raining here, so I can go fishing.

Darn.  That's not a challenge.  Half the fun is the actual hunt.  *wolfy pulls out his rod and reel and casts into the ocean*

I think there're more furs in that state than you're assuming. Just look around this board and you'll find quite a few of them right under your nose. '<img'>

Howls fellow eater of salmon.

Oh, wow!  It's a really small, small world after all.  (Sorry for the Disney quote.  '<img'> )  I live a few miles north of Virginia Beach.

I don't know what's more fun about fish, catching them or eating them, maybe both.  *murrs at the thought of seafood*

Haha, don't worry about the Disney quote...  I used to flip burgers for The Mouse.  =^_~=

Ahh man, I used to go to Virgina Beach all the time!!  That's where I learned to swim.  ...haha, when I was a little Wamplet, my dad picked me up by the paws and chucked me far into the ocean.  ...hahahahahaha.  So that was my first experience with the beach.  We caught a clam and put it on ice in the hotel.  We set it free, 'cause in the middle of the night, it was chattering like castanets.  Freaky.

..oh but salmon..  let us all murr in unison at the thought of a fresh, juicy hunk of salmon....ohhhh droool..   '<img'>
My favorite way to cook salmon... first off, you gotta find a really high-quality fresh beautiful slice or three.. then I take a container and pour in some soysauce and a couple spoonfuls of sugar (hah, another Disney quote!'<img'> and stir it up.  THEN put the salmon *drool* in the mixture and make sure it soaks into the sweet, delicious meat.  Meanwhile, I've fired up the grill...  Throw that fish on the grill for like a couple minutes on both sides.  Just till there's about three milimeters of cooked fish on either side..  The middle will be lukewarm and juicy as all get-out...  DROOL...slightly seared salmon....OHHH YES.  OH! YES!   ...I think I need some alone time, now..

P.S.  "Virginia is for Furries" sounds like something that should go on a shirt or bumper stickers, hint-hint.

What did Bugs Bunny once say?  "This looks like the beginning of a beyootiful friendship!"

'<img'>   I love your VA Beach story.  That's some pretty rough water to be thrown into.  Clams clapping.  Reminds me of an old B-52's tune.

Salmon!  *murrs happily and drools leaving a pool*  That sounds tasty.  I have to try it.  *drools some more*  Darn, I drooled all over me good football boots.  Maybe I need to leave the room, too.  ''

"Virginia is for Furries"  It certainly would make Virginia a better place.

Hey sonofearth, there's quite a lot of furs in the Northern Virginia area including myself.  A few that I know of that aren't on Furtopia, but are fairly well known are:

Rigel - Created and use to run the Purple Nurple on FurryMuck, also is on the board of Anthrocon.

Xydexx - Fairly famous on FM and helps puts together the Anthrocon con book

The webcomic artist that does Suburban Jungle

The couple that does the webcomic Vinci and Arty.

Plus a lot of other less famous furs.  There's going to be an informal Northern VA fur gathering over 4th of July weekend.

Some of those names are familiar to me.  I haven't been in the fandom for very long, so I'm still getting used to everything.

Oh, wow.  I wish I could make it to that, but I probably will still be getting ready for AC. '<img'>

I've met some Virginia Furries from Northern VA, but I know there are a few here in the Southeast.  Post here.  Maybe we can bring the furs from the DC 'burbs and us together.  Western Virginia and Richmond furries are also welcome here. '<img'>  '<img'>  '<img'>

:smiles as she slithers up the red muddy clay river bed, the water flowing off her as though it desired to caress her scales farewell:

Hi!  I grew up in Maryland, near Baltimore, and can tell you that, after traveling the states and finally choosing to buy a house and settle in Virginia, Virginia is definately better then Maryland and most other states.  It has varied activities one can experience, from the city and clubbing life, to the quieter, simpler times shared in luray caverns or along skyline drive.  The people take their time and actually WANT to hear your answer when they ask 'How are you?"  They smile and wave just because they want to show you they notice you.  Economically, the taxes aren't too bad and the cost of living is reasonable.  We've got history, beauty, nature, modern war/military, and colonial replicas.  And we are a major concert stop on every traveling muscians itinerary.  VA is where it's at.

Actually, I think Cargo created the Purple Nurple. I may be wrong, but I know he did at least run it at one point, and had Rigel there as the bouncer.

I was born here.  I was raised here.  All my life I was a water baby.  I love my Atlantic Ocean, but I will leave this state to be with my beloved Taos, NM.  I'll miss VA, but after you've seen the great Rocky Mountains, there's just nothing like them on earth.  It will be great to have a den there and raise a mess of cubs in those glorious mountains.  Still, I think when I move there, I'll look east, towards my untamed Atlantic Ocean and shed a tear.
