I actually have never found a novel I particularly like by a known member of the fandom, though I've been here for several years.

For older audiences, there's the novel Felidae which has violence and sex, set in Germany with non-anthros, but is primarily a grim feline murder mystery.

There's also The Fox Woman, which has adult themes but is about romance and existentialism in ancient Japan between kitsune and humans.

I remember one called The Cat Who Wished to Be a Man from my childhood, which is suitable for all ages and geared towards young adults or older children.

I found that book in the library as a kid, and I LOVED it.  It's by Lloyd Alexander.
